Soooo, last weekend was beautiful around here and I decided to wash the car. Looked great. Then either last night (while parked at my house) or the night before (while parked at a local armory) my car "acquired" a new mod. I discovered this mod when I was driving this morning, looked to the right, and went  at the 8-10 in. long horizontal crack in my windshield! I get out and check it and there is a small fresh chip near the black on the side of the windshield with a crack running one direction into the molding, and the other about 1/4 of the way into my field of vision. Checking the very small chip I find that it is quite rough and that the immediate impact area (all white crushed glass) is about the size of a bb. I know that it is not from a rock because: I have not hit any this week, did not have any chip present when washing my car, did not have any crack when I left it on tues, and natural cracks don't grow 8in in two days! Now I'm out $250-300 b/c some dumb, depressed, wanna-be gangster w/ non medicated ADD decides that shooting up cars is as much fun as playing halo. Argh!!!!!

that sucks i feel your pain, my car was a few months old when someone smashed my driver side window to try to jack my 4 year old jvc deck. of course he didn't get it but he broke it, let me with broken glass all over my car, scratched up my leather, dash and doors and i was out like $300 for a new window.

Broken windshields suck! Especially if some dumbass does it out of vandalism.

I have windshield replacement coverage that costs me roughly $4 each six months. It covers free windshield repair in case of a crack. The insurance company would rather pay to replace the windshield than my head if it went through the glass.

The windshield is a key element in directing the airbag in many vehicles. If the windshield is compromised with a crack, the airbags may blow out the glass and not provide proper protection of the occupants.

That sucks dude. This happened to my wife a few years back only she was driving and the BB took out her whole passenger window. Luckily, no one was sitting there.
