Of course you can join, anyone can join. And since the 2005 Elantra is an XD (an XD2 really) you are more than welcome. Welcome to the site, and feel free to ask any questions.

Ugh. Newbie is the right name for this forum because I just bought a 2004 and thought it was a 2005.

Anyway, I'm so happy with the car. Seeing the odometer read less than 1000 miles is so amazing.

Good luck to all who drive these cars!

FWIW, the 2005 model should be virtually the same as the 04. It is built on the same platform (XD2) with the same engine (Beta II) and the same options.

Anyhoo, welcome to the club! We wish you years of fun, reliable transportation and maybe we'll get to meet you at a get-together sometime!

welcome to the board, I've had mine a little less than 2 months. The only things i've done to it so far is remove the elbow that goes from the air box to the fender, and add a k&n panel filter, and i've already seen a good improvement in performance.

one of my friends went to the local dealarship and asked about the 05's they told him something about a different valve or something that will helpp with the 1000-2000 rpm range/ he isn't sure about what it is called tho, I asked a parts guy there and he doesn't know about it either/ my friend was talking with a guy who is now in the sales dept bust was in the service dept for a few years, doesn anyone know anything about the different valve or something?

The only thing I can think of is that he was talking about the CVVT (Continously Variable Valve Timing) that the 2004's already have.

The only changes that might happen is the availability of a GLS Hatchback (I've never liked this idea), but it may happen to help keep sales up.

Yes, one of the claims Hyundai made is that the CVVT beta had improved low end torque in the 1000-2250 rpm range over the non-CVVT beta engine.

I seem to remember seeing dyno plots of the CVVT and non-CVVT beta engines and the difference was perhaps 3 foot pounds or so.

The '05 Elantra are now avaliable in Canada, it was officially released September 1st. No real major changes here in Canada, they just changed the options, added and deleted.

Canadian models can no longer get leather seats. The GT only comes one way, no leather and no sunroof  but you still get all the power equipment and ABS and TCS.
We now have a SE edition which comes with sunroof, purple guages, ABS and 4 wheel disc brakes.

hé my 1st post, I joined here because I am looking at changing my car, and there's 99% chance it will be an Elantra, I need a sedan because I have a baby and in Québec it can get very cold in winter, and putting the grocery in the trunk or driving with the trunk open carrying something is not an option... In Canada the 2004 sedan was like the USDM GLS ; only the hacthback came with 4 discs, etc, but (copy&paste from a post I made on another forum):

I have some info on the Canadian 2005 Elantra, here it is:

the sedan (4 doors) will come in three models:
same thing than 2004:
the GL with nothing power and the a/c is an option,
the VE with full power and a/c (like the USDM GLS),
new for 2005:
the SE with everything the VE has + 4 discs brake, trip computer, fog light, leather steering wheel and gear stick, 6 speakers, also it has ABS and roof factory installed. Basically it is the equivalent of the USDM GT 4 doors. Priced at near 20000$CAD.

the hatchback (5 doors) in 2004 existed only in GT, now:
the GL with nothing power, a/c optionnal
the VE with full power and a/c
the GT like we know it
It seems all of the hatchback have 4 discs.

No leather available on all the Elantra, TCS seems to be only on the GT, no "premium package" anymore.

Shoot! We finally get the 4 wheel disc brakes on a sedan in 2005, I should have waited a year.

Interesting info. I wonder what changes there will be for us here in the US?

There was a four wheel disc break option on 2001-2002 GLS's. So instead of waiting, you could have bought the car earlier, haha.

Must have been an option in 03, too, because I have them on mine.

4 wheel disc brakes came on the 2001-2002 Elantra sedans in Canada?! Oops, I went to the dealership back when the the very first XD arrived on the lot at my local dealership and I didn't like it on my first impression, I bought an Accent GSi instead. If only they had of had a black XD instead of the tan/beige (no offense to owners of said colour :) ) I probably would have looked more at the XD. At the time I was driving a Dodge Colt and the XD seemed too large for my style of driving, well that and the Accent had somewhat of a WRC reputation...

only on the brand new 2005 Elantras...and you have to order them with the car.
