View Full Version : Touring Cup Front Lip Spoiler
SuperGLS

Chalon from www.TheFocusShop.com would like to offer us a group buy on his Touring Cup Front Lip Spoiler. This spoiler is designed to work on the Elantra GT (I will assume that it works on all Elantra bumpers, as they are not very different). A version of this spoiler is already being sold for Focus', Civic's, and Sentra's. It is a simple spoiler, but it looks nice and is race "inspired."

Before the GB can go through, he wants to provide one person (preferably on the East Coast) with the chance to test fit it to make sure it fits, and to show everyone that it will indeed fit. If any GT owner wants to agree to the test fit, you'll need to pay $75. Upon installation, pics, and review of the front lip spoiler a refund will be given to the lucky individual.
Then, the group buy will start. GB pricing will be announced shortly. I've asked Chalon to stop by in order to answer any questions that everyone might have.

Hello everyone,
This is Chalon from The Focus Shop. First off I'd like to thank SuperGLS for working with The Focus Shop to bring the Touring Cup spoiler to the 01-03 Elantra GT market. For those that have visited the web site, The Focus Shop (http://www.TheFocusShop.com) , it is currently being revised, and information is somewhat limited. As the applications of the Touring Cup spoiler evolve, so shall the web site.
History:
The Touring Cup spoiler is the end result of the idea to meet an essential need in the Sport Compact world. As the aftermarket has ramped up ground effects products these last few years, many car models have gone overlooked or prices have been elevated to the point of eliminating the average enthusiast. The Touring Cup spoiler goes against this trend.
Design:
The Touring Cup spoiler is scaled for the street and based on spoilers found on race cars competing in the Speed World Challenge Touring Car series.
The benefits of this design are:
1. The reduction of airflow and the limiting of pocketing underneath the car and increased airflow over the car, reducing lift and increasing the effectiveness of rear spoilers .
2. Front end downforce, increasing stability and handling.
It should be noted, these attributes will only be fully realized at track speeds.
A measure of performance will be realized on the street at highway speeds.
Appearance/durability:
The Touring Cup spoiler does not go the route of the JDM look. It's simplicity is it's greatest advantage functionally, and the smooth lines bring the race look to the street. Built into the design is the narrow fender line, which conforms to the car's body lines, and eliminates the necessity for side skirts.
As a multi application spoiler, it can be adapted to many bumpers. An OEM quality urethane mold ensures consistancy and durability. Installation is DIY and can be accomplished in less than an hour.
As far as the installation to non-GT Elantra's goes, the spoiler requires a flat surface from fender well to fender well to mount to.
I will be working with SuperGLS to iron out the details and move the process along. Stay tuned to this thread for updates.
Thank you for your support,
Chalon

well i think that this would also work for the gls since the bumper bottom is not that much different.

Only differnce is the GLS bumper rises slightly in the center, whereas the GT is flat across. May have some minor gapping on the GLS. I do on mine, but it's not even noticible.

Good to see lots of interest. Chalon and I will decide on the best GT test candidate and then let that person know. Oh, and Chalon is the guy selling them on eBay. As you can see the price is $110, our GB price will be a good deal under that. So, more info to come. Thanks again guys.

I must say I am very impressed with everyone's interest. You guys make me want to pick up an Elantra just to hang out on the board with you. Although I do not currently own a Hyundai, I have owned two previously, both Accents.
I should have never sold my 97 GS, but needed a station wagon. Believe me, I test drove an 02 Elantra GT...loaded...but I got a Focus wagon, loaded as well, for a great deal. Well that's probably enough about me for now....
As far as the GLS goes, and for that matter the 04 GT, the recessed section of the bumper is what troubles me. I see some of you have noted this difference as well. IMO the best way to fit the Touring Cup spoiler to these bumpers is to leave the gap there. This is not such a bad thing, as it does open up other options. B/c the spoiler will need to be supported in this area, one could use bolts to accomplish this. I believe they are called toggle bolts, could be wrong, but these bolts have a smaller threaded area, and a longer unthreaded area. The bolts could be polished up, painted body color, or black for a grille effect. If the exposed bolts are a not to your liking, then perhaps adding some grille mesh might be the answer. These are ideas off the top of my head...maybe they will get you guys thinking about options. Currently, until the Touring Cup spoiler begins to sufficiently pay for itself, there are no plans to create individual bumper molds. I look forward to checking back and seeing what ideas may have developed.

If I hadn't put all the work into the 95 Taurus fron lip already I'd be on this.

That recessed are on the GLS is soooooo small. I have a front lip from the 95ish Mercury Mystique... it's straight across like would be needed on the GT. I just put a bolt right in the middle and pulled it up in the center with that. The only way you can tell is if you're laying on the ground looking at the front of the car. I know Jay also used the merc. mystique lip on his GLS too, probably mounted it the same way I did mine without any trauma.
Here's a pic, kinda dark, but you get the idea:
