Never heard that before. Let me guess, a Honduh guy told you that right? On Honduhs, they use harmonic dampers for things like that, and for a whole host of other mods they might do to their car.

There are plenty of XDs/XD2s on this site that have the pulley and they have never, ever, had a problem with it. You've basically heard an urban legend unrelevant to the Hyundai community.

On your stock pulley there is a rubber ring built into it that is used to dampen any bad vibes that are coming from your engine. Dont worry about just the UD pulley it isnt enough to fould your motor. I had mine on for years with my Jetta, had one on my XD too along with a light flywheel. You will be just fine, if there was a big issue we would have told you about it before you bought it right.

they're mainly used on v8 engines. not really as common of a problem on 4cyl vehicles

thats the problem look at some threads they say they that it might **** up my engine so i dunno i only have 12,000 km on my car and i really want to install it but not with a price of killing my engine:

You will be fine, I said before that I know boosted guys who have had them for years with no trouble. Ive had em on a few of my cars, my Jetta was over 200whp and a high revving engine, no problems. My XD also had a lightweight flywheel on it, something else that people said would cause a problem with a lightweight crank pulley, no problems.

This all goes back to people reading something in a book and without any first hand experience, making a generalized judgement. The harmonic dampening in the pulley, like evan said is not so much a problem with 4cyl as it is larger motors. If you are only looking at the extreme negative of modding then I suggest taking that pulley you just bought and put in up for sale again.

don't the pulley belts act like a bit of a damper too? They are rubber and under tension, so they would absorb shocks and such.

thats not really true. pretty much all cars have them.

the time frame for real engine damage to occur for a daily driven street car is probably quite long.

so, if you want an underdrive pulley, underdrive your heart out. you'll probably sell or wreck the car before anything happens.

I'm sure it could be done with hand tools, though if i were you, I would get an impact gun

yeah you can do it with hand tools, correct me if I'm wrong but I think there is a DIY in here somewhere...

yeah there is something about putting a breaker bar on the socket, unhooking power to the coils and canking the engine over...

Vladj, if you were worried about the effects of the crank pulley, I would get an impact gun and take that bolt out.
