First, NO "S" on the header, as we only have 1 bank of cylinders.

Secondly, though this has been discussed more times than my fingers and toes can keep count on, yes, these will work.

Here's what you need to know:

1) The outside four bolt holes, 2 on the left, 2 on the right, need to be enlarged slightly to fit. No problem, as everything else lines up perfectly. A Dremel or other rotary tool works here.

2) You need to take the car to an exhaust shop to have some pipe welded on so the mid-pipe reaches the rest of the exhaust system. This header's mid-pipe is too short to reach completely.

3) SEARCH: OBX header, SS Autochrome Header, Tiburon header.

All of the above in number 3 will give you the information I've given you and even more, 20 times over plus 20.

also ifyou have an 06 then you have two 02 sensors. i only see a bung for one.

^ Only 1 is upfront. The other is down below. This header should have 1 in the runner. If it doesn't, then a new bung must be welded on too.

And quality is crap!

That's for any elantra year with the beta engine :abovelol:

well if you have to weld a bung on, where is the best location?

KeWLKaT
07-25-2007, 09:45 PM
no, the second bung goes far behind the catalytic converter.

Here's an example of their "quality"

"Nicely" aligned tubes and welding
http://i88.photobucket.com/albums/k177/ryesherm2/DSC00055.jpg
(Note how far off the right one is)

"Great" exterior welding
http://i88.photobucket.com/albums/k177/ryesherm2/DSC00058.jpg
(Yes that is a hole in the weld there)

And then some complain about how it buzzes.

Find me a header that doesn't buzz.

Even evan's 600$ key header buzzed. And I was behind him driving, when he had it, heard it myself.

those ebay headers are crap, I've seen one in person, they're haphazardly hacked together by people in china who make less in a day than I make an hour.

if performance is what you're after, then dont buy one, but if you just want the look of headers, then go for it.

^^thats not the case for all cars...

07-25-2007, 11:18 PM
they may make better welds for other cars, but I dont doubt that their performance is inferior to the other headers available for those cars

well i really would like to get the ef once but i hear it takes them a year to ship and i cant afford the $400 shark racing once

LMAO...if you're worried about waiting for an evo fusion, you'll really wig out when you find that shark racing will NEVAR ship anything!

seriously though, if you're looking for power, you should either shell out the money for a header from kspec of seoioulful racing...or be willing to endure the wait for an evo fusion.

otherwise you're just wasting your time and money

07-25-2007, 11:53 PM
And they are a bit more prompt on answering emails than EF or Kspec.

Yeah but those items weren't like headers (sells once in 4 years) or a turbo kit (sells to one person in history).

I'm just going to save up for the Maintec GT headers and ARK catback.

Yeah those GT headers are sexy and ive only seen them on one car, that chinese dude that used to chill here a lot and had some coilovers on the back only... i forget his screen name. he had a fidanza too and a lsd.

07-26-2007, 12:03 AM

BTW KeWLKaT i tryed sending you a pm but your mailbox is full. anyhow thanks i cant wait till it gets here

Yes, you could buy those and have all of the welds touched up. You may pay about $50 for that, maybe less, maybe more.

All header systems cause buzzing, it's unavoidable on a 4 cylinder motor.

Not all the eBay header's are crap. You get what you pay for though. Mine were about $150 and have been on my car for 25,000 plus miles, and no worries. I keep burning gaskets up between the header and mid-pipe, but when your front O2 sensors is bad and you are running super rich, that kind of thing happens.

The worst thing about the eBay header in general is the gaskets. You are much better off using the OEM stock head flange gasket and buying some aftermarket ones for the mid-pipe section. That's my only complaint about it.

vladj
07-26-2007, 01:30 PM
so if i have the welds tourched up and get all new gaskets and bolts and ceramic coat it then it should be fine?

If anyone has a set laying around take a pic of the inside of the collector...I know when I had my 2 sets I saw more extra pipe in that hole than when I watched Gangbang 3000!

They are put together terribly, Ford did a dyno a while ago and it turned out that the stock manifold made more power than an OBX header.

thats what I was getting at, im sure there are good craftsmen in china, but rest assured, they arent building headers for OBX

bad welds, extra pipe hanging in the holes...after the time and money you've spent to fix an OBX, you could have bought a better quality header

I've got the sharkracing unit. took danm near half a year to show up. but it did.... and it's probably pooped prettyer looking carbon splatters than that obx header. Welds are all TIG and BEAUTIFULL. it's survived several years of abuse in canadian winters without cracking.... its starting to rust a little bit... but i could fix that lickady split if it really bothered me. The point is. you deffinatly get what you paid for. The shark racing headers actually last longer / rust less than the ceramic coated ones from hot shot.
I've compared them in person.
and they deffinatly... deffinatly.... deffinatly.... make freaking power.
yeah.....
They buzz like a mofo too.....

Ontario does an exhaust test on older cars I *think*, but I don't think any other province has enviro-inspections at all. Sucks to be american ;) JFWY

Ontario has emissions tests based on your postal code. In Ottawa you need a test, but 1 hour down the road where I live you dont.

Okay it is header time i found an obx header for an 03 to 06 2.0 tibby. Does anybody know if i need to move the o2 bung on this down stream or will it utilize factory locations???? Any and all thoughts are appreciated....

PSUsouthpaw
08-07-2007, 11:18 PM
you may need to get some welding done for it to fit properly.

I only see one o2 bung on the midpipe, and thats the best location for your primary bung. the secondary one you can relocate behind the cat to avoid the dreaded cel. or if you feel like letting it slide for awhile, leave the second one unplugged until you get around to it. I just throw a cel every time i start the car, than clear it with my scangauge.

BC has emissions. They do a visual check for the 2nd cat too.

i didnt feel like reading thru all the posts... but from what i understand there isnt a good set of headers for a good price... or good shipping.

so i fugured, go buy some pipe, have it bent to fit, n weld it ur self? or someone who can weld good? n use the stock flange or w/e its called that secures it to the engine.

as i myself have also thought about buying headers from a number of the lusted sites, ark, ef, soulful, w/e... but after reading all the possible negatives, ill just stick to the stock headers...

just my .02

For the last time, there is NO "s" in header on a 4cyl. motor. We only have ONE bank of cylinders.

And pete..., you are sadly mistaken and misinformed regarding a header for the Elantra. SOME people have had problems with the eBay header, not all. And all of the ones offered from Korea are GREAT, except in price. But you pay for quality, fitment, and performance. It's your choice.
