It's just ****ing disgusting. Every single day in this damn state. People can't settle their differences w/o a god damn gun! Tonight, about 10 miles down the road from me, 3 people shot in front of a comfort inn, and this is in a suburban neighborhood (not a bad area at all). I am a responsible gun owner (permits, registrations, gun locks blah blah blah.........) and it makes me sick to see the misuse and abuse of such weapons day in and day out.
It's all I see in the news at night and it's making it's way closer and closer to home!

Perfect example of people ruining it for everyone else.
I was at my mother's house about a month ago in Greenfield (Indiana) which is a small town, borderline redneck country..and some 55 year old lady got robbed and shot in the face point-blank with a shotgun. All over a supposed 45-50 bucks.
What the hell is wrong with the world these days?

Same here. the little town I grew up in now has a gang that calls itself the Topton Krypts. Nevermind the fact they are too imbecilic to spell it properly, it makes me wish that vigilantism was a viable option. especially since the police in town would rather give out tickets for expired registrations rather than dealing with this.

^^Right! Whatever happened to a good old fist fight followed by hey pal, let me buy you a beer. Laziness. It's the Play station/ computer generation growing up saying guns are just easier. The worst thing is they say crime is down 15% in the area!

I'm happy about the German people. They aren't so aggressively. But they get more and more aggressively.
But: I don't know why the people get so aggressively and shot or hurt people... Can't they talk?!

These kids never earned any respect from anyone. A gun in the face will get them what they think is respect. They don't realize that the target respects the gun for it's capabilities, not the shooter.

Homicides in Pittsburgh are up to somewhere around 62 people killed so far this year, up from 42. Drug use (especially heroin) has gone up in the last few years.
I believe that most homicides (other than husband-wife, girlfriend-boyfriend-family types) are drug related -- at least the drive-by and street-corner type shootings. Most of the armed robberies of individuals where someone gets shot is probably illegal drug related.
I agree with SisTum ID -- this is nothing new; look at the old west in the USA...

Another was a cleveland firefighter that went crazy and shot 4 people over fireworks. Another was at a different nightclub the next day and 1 person was was killed. Then 3 kids were shot including a 2 year old but none of them were killed. It is CRAZY! Irs all these stupid kids around here the grauduation rate for highschool here is 45% So there are alot of idiots running around w/ nothing to do.

Ever since Katrina victims came to San Antonio crime has goon up.
At me work you hired 67 people from New Orleans. Out of the 67 people only 3 people stay to work.
That was on two weeks most did not like to work. But they like to get free money from the government.
Different communities have differing levels of tolerance to poor behavior and crime. However, civilized behaviors are achievable by all races. But we in this country provide excuses and tolerate crap from African American. Not all African American are bad, true enough, but has ignoring crime, and chaso service the interests of any race?

^ I assume you're talking about the Carrick area? I've noticed it's sliding down a bit. Dormont (where I grew up in the 70's) got bad in the mid 80's to 90's, but it looks like it might be getting better.

this being in general and not eastern pa ill keep this quick heh, but i just gotta say ive been a renter up until feb of this year, so ive moved alot, and i always went with cheap housing, but not the "cheapest", basically this means i bordered a lower class neiborhood each time
i lived in brentwood (next to carrick) and it was getting bad, there were shooting at the carrick HS and other places.. it was getting pretty sketcy close to the neiborhood borders..
I lived in swissvale, bordered edgewood and while it wasnt too bad there, there was definitly some problems around the rankin brige and some of that area.. not fun, not a ton of shooting, but definitly people getting jumped/held up and such
Lived in greenfield, bordered hazelwood, once again not awefull, but just aggressive people in hazelwood, nothing usually too bad. some shootings here and there, but just plain aggressive people
now im in munhall, bordering homestead, homestead is just getting worse and worse, more shooting then before. fires that were not natural causes, tons of break ins etc.. luckily this time in pretty deep into munhall, so i dont see much of it too close to home.. but its still close enough :P
and thats just a TASTE of the slummy parts of pittsburgh, i could list a ton more places i wouldnt want to be caught in at night..
society sucks, we need good non-crooked cops posted every few blocks in neiborhoods like that. or just cameras EVERYWHERE and someone who actually monitors them and has high response time..
i duno, i hate it when i cant take a walk at night and feel safe. i dont feel safe anywhere anymore, not even in the nicer areas. im afraid that the sketchy citizens go into the nicer areas to rob those people casue they have more money!
i know the topic isnt racism or nothing, but i gotta throw this out casue i never really shared this story b4..
-
i should mention that when i lived in greenfield there were alot of race issues. and while i never partook and am not racist and think people who are are just stupid.
i WAS actually jumped by two people who said that i was friends with someone who attacked them (which was bull, i never saw these people in my life, not did i hang out with people who would get in pointless fights). there were two of them, bigger then me so i did what any self respecting white dood would do.. i booked lol
once i got home it turns out they started jumping everyone they say,. they beat up some dood in his 40s walking his dog, the punched some old guy taking a walk. then the just started getting in fights with any one they cam up to. they came up to the wrong person and got their asses half kicked and we ended up with about 10 cop cars in the neiborhood afraid that someone was going to kill these guys for what they did.. it was nutz

Someone should have killed those two.
Bob...Everyone should be armed. I guarantee you, it would reduce the level of crime greatly, simply because nobody would try ANYTHING.
i dont think it would work that way, i think there are enough dumb people who would throw their lives away.. and/or be willing to risk death just for revenge, acceptince into a group (gang) etc..
i give humanity no credit.. which is exactly waht we deserve.. (as a whole)
just like everything in life, even in existance itself, some people ruin it for everyone

Yep, I know a lot of white criminal types. The brother of the manager of my old apartment building was in prison for something (I never asked what), and his other brother who lived in the apartment complex was a borderline criminal. The Manager's assistant (also white) had a bit of a rap sheet, mostly for drunken-disorderly and had done time for drug posession.
In poor white areas, there are white criminals. In poor minority areas, there are minority criminals.
It's more of a socioeconomic / financial thing, and it just happens that due to whatever causes, a larger percentage of minorities happen to be into the lower socioeconomic layers of society.
So basically, race doesn't have anything to do with it per se -- it's a socioeconomic thing.

Whether people realize it or not, look at the total number of inmates are in prison and categorize them by ethnic background..
In some prisons/jails, there are more blacks and hispanics than whites.
In the juvenile detention center where I teach the number vary from day to day. At the most, we have had 16 kids per pod (A, C through H. B pod is for solitary confinement). About a third is white most of the time.
There has been an increase of whites in the center due to drug charges and other minor stuff.

The thing is, judges are soft on criminals.
I rarely mention details of my work, but this is an exception..
About 4 years ago, I was teaching reading at an elementary school where I was working with kids who did not know English very well. I was working with Zina Linnik, a kid from the Ukraine.
This year, I got a page where an Amber Alert was issued for a missing 12 year old girl. The girl was Zina. She disappeared on July 4th 2007 and was found dead 2 weeks later.
Her killer was a known sex offender who had 1 known sex offense plus a weapons charge. He also was a Thailand native and the weapons charge was grounds for deportation of him due to his past.
It turns out he repeatedly abused a 15 year old girl plus kidnapped another girl about the same age as Linnik. He also is suspected of murdering a 10 year old girl in 2006.

Wait, wait, wait...our justice system...giving criminals what they deserve? Nah....that'll never happen...
For an excellent read by an author in the 1950s, who calls out exactly what todays justice system is like, look up Robert Heinlein's book, "Starship Troopers"
(p.s. the movie was a flaming piece of dog ****, the only thing in common with the book being one or two character names and a war against bugs. otherwise, the entire point of the book was missed)

I wanted to share a website with you that is a good idea to visit. It is www.familywatchdog.us . When you visit this site you can enter your address and a map will pop up with your house as the small icon of a house and red, blue, green, dots surrounding your entire neighborhood.
When you click on these dots a picture of a person will appear with an address and the description of the crime he or she had committed. I was really shocked at how many of these people were in my neighborhood. The best thing is that you can show your children pictures and see how close these people live to your house or school. This site was developed by John Walsh from Americas Most Wanted. Another tool to help us keep our kids safe.

speaking of crime....
we've been having people hit my dad's company about 2 nights a week seeing what they can steal.
I guess so far, they've stolen about $10k worth of stuff.
the police wont bust them for stealing until they have physically taken something off of the private property...making it nearly impossible to catch them
the obvious solution is to steak it out with the AR-15 from the roof....however, I think a judge would frown on that...and I'm not going to prison for $10k.
I'm still trying to think of a way to "get" these guys without going to jail...or...whatever, if I can get them arrseted for stealing, that'd be cool too.
rubber bullets maybe?
bean cartridges for shotguns dont have the range I'd need...if I'm within range for a shotgun, I could probably legally kill them anyway.

^ Definitely just film them doing it, and make sure that you get a shot of their license plate if they're using a car.
If you are present filming with a handheld camera when they come, you might want to be armed in case they see you and want to start something. If I remember correctly, the gun laws and shooting laws in Texas are very lenient if you shoot second or if someone is on your property. However, I'd start with documenting it on video rather than going in shooting (with anything other than a video camera).
You should also be able to do a citizen's arrest of them if you feel safe doing so, and force them (with the minimum amount of physical force required) to remain on the scene until the cops arrive.

Holy crap! It's time for me to move after checking out that site. I'm surrounded by freaks! (100's)
Anyway, there was more about the shootings that started this thread. Apparently, the guys wife died in March and he didn't want to go on living so he bought himself a 9mm. Went to the parking lot outside the Comfort Inn and shot 5 rounds at a random motel guest on his cell phone, then shot one of the motel managers through the glass of the front door before he went to a small patch of grass and shot himself in the head. No one knows why he decided to shoot others first. Police say he just "snapped".
