oil level??

OK, I've changed the oil in my car more times than I can remember. When refilling, after draining and replacing the filter, how much do you usually pour back in? According to every manual I've ever read, it states 4 Liters or 4.2 quarts. The best I've ever found without going over the full line when hot is 3.4 liters or 3.6 quarts. The manuals say to fill it, run the engine until warm and shut it off for 5 minutes then check the level. What do you guy's use? It's also very clear in the service manual that all the Beta II use 5w20 oil only! Thicker isn't better in this engine.

ya probably 5w20 in canada. tempurature determines oil type mostly. im running 10w40 in southern california for the summer. 10w30 otherwise. but yes ive also noticed the engine never takes as much oil on refill as the manual says. which sucks cuz ive also had a few shops overfill it most likely for that reason. now i do it myself and put in about 3 quarts and keep checking the level after that untill its at the top of the mark. then start it up, test drive , look for leaks , let sit on level surface 3-5 minutes, check oil one more time.add if needed. there ya go i think i got everything in there.lol

Put in 4.2 quarts. It's the capacity the manufacturer states.

^- Wrong. Hyundai had a TSB that said some of the manuals where printed wrong, don't remember what years, but it said to go off the dipstick! Foamy oil = a hell of alot worse than slightly low.

I've checked in the service manual. At least for my 2006, it states use 5w20 irregardless of climate. Maybe it's different for the Beta I?

I just bought some 10w30... That's what they put at the dealerships around here, always have used it, never had problems. Then again since it's a synthetic blend it's thinner than regular dino oil so therefor would translate into a slightly thinner oil which would also make sense.

Thin oil such as 5w30 makes my lifter noise go up... (only use it in winter --- still have it in the car right now since I don't drive it as much anymore).

I use 10w30 mobil 1 synthetic during the summer, it runs better with it than 5w30. During the winter i go back to 5w30 mobil 1 synthetic and also i noticed that since i do a lot of stop and go driving using a Mobil 1 oil filter my oil stays alot cleaner longer than using a regular oil filter.

I also change my oil like every 4-5 months since in 5 months i'll only drive less than 3,000 miles

Ummm... Most of us here have Beta II's, not Beta I's. A few select members have Beta I's in their J2 Elantras and RD Tiburons.

As far as the 5w20, never heard of it. From the dealership, it comes with 5w30 in it, here in the States. I switch back and forth between 5w30 and 10w30, depending on climate.

that's odd, we all have pretty much the same engine from 2004-06, except for those sulev guys but that's another story. well i got an 04 and i've always put 5w30 in winter and 10w30 in summer.

Read how they say ``not recommended for sustained high speeding`` for 5w20 in the 2004 version.

I thinkt that should give you a clue.

Anyways, continue using 5w20, and good luck with the premature internal head failure.

I use 5w30 all year round, AMSOIL full synthetic, change it every 10,000 KMS.

I'm not saying I don't agree with using 10w30 in the summer, I'm just trying to understand why and what the differences are. For an example, Hondus can only run 5w20, year round. You can actually cause damage to the engine due the oil being too thick. They specifically designed it to use the thinner oil. What if Hyundai is trying to do this?? 06 may have been the first year that they were trying this new technology. I'm going to ask my pal at my dealership to check some part numbers to see what is different. Maybe a different calibrated or designed pump. Different heads or block castings. There is always a reason.

Isn't yours a 04?? According to the manual, you should run 10w30. The funny thing is, if you service at Focus Hyundai(winnipeg), they'd use 5w20. That's what they use in everything now. Interesting?

nope mine is an 06 and i asked focus hyundai and they said 10w30

I just finished talking to one of the techs from Focus, they are using 10w30 for summer, 5w30 for winter and 5w20 in any model requiring it.

Yeah thats what they do in general for any car really...

I'm too use to Hondus...in that they evolved around 2000 and we use 5w20 generally. S2000's use 10w30 year round, and the hybrids use 0w20. We don't change grades for anything. I've been there so long that I'm a little brain washed some days.
