I'm driving an '07 Sonata GLS today, and it has an extremely minor feature I REALLY wish my '02 Elantra did - auto window up. Just like you push the button all the way down and the window goes down all the way - if you pull it up the window goes up all the way.

Did this start coming on all Hyundais recently, or is it specific to just the Sonata (and probably higher-end Hyundais)? Just curious because I've never noticed it on any other Hyundai I've drove.

Yeah, I think pretty-much all Hyundais after 2000 (maybe before) have that. It's just Auto-up that I'm curious about.

I was just trying to explain to my girlfriend yesterday how much it would rule to have auto-up as well as auto-down, when she replied with "Why is it so hard to push a switch for 4 seconds?"

Lol

so you think the auto up is built into the panel? because im pretty sure auto down is just part of the switching mechanism.. maybe im wrong ?

i wanna say there might be a way to do a conversion..

also i read that most lexas's have been using the auto up feature when trying to google if there is a way to mod one.. *which i didnt find anything on..

My friend's 1993 Subaru Legacy has auto up and down on his power windows so the feature has been around for a long time. I haven't even checked to see if my window has auto up on my '07.

I wouldnt mind having it, but if i had kids, i would make sure there was no option like that...easiest way to get their head stuck in the window. thats the main reason a lot of companies went from the flat switch panel to a rocker, where instead of pushing down for either up or down, you actually have to lift for up. MUCH harder for a kid or pet to get a head stuck in a window going up with a rocker switch like that

^^The window reverses to the bottom immediately upon any resistance if it's not completely to the top.

yeah i'd like to have auto up because sometimes i don't close my windows all the way and I find spiders in the car when i go to work in the morning, which sucks

I'll have to check mine tomorrow. Haven't noticed that feature yet. I wish it did, but I don't think it does.

auto up would be cool, but a lot of effort to change if your car doesnt have it.

it would be one of those "yeah thats cool features" that you prolly wouldnt use as much as you think you would.
i know with my auto down, i rarely use it, i only like to crack the window to let some air in/through, im not one that can handle the window down driving at 100km/hr - as it ruins my hair! lol
(tho, with my auto down, i REALLY have to PUSH the window button - quite hard, until it makes a loud and solid click to tell me its in auto down mode..)

auto up, cool feature if it came standard on our cars, it might be a bit of hard work to change over, unless you pull the swtiching gear from a Sonata thats got it maybe?

You'd need the limit switches from inside the doors on all windows that had auto up (and / or the logic circuit that measures the amperage to each auto-up window and reverses it if something is stuck), and the window switchgear that had the additional position above the manual up mode when you lift the switch.

A friend of mine has an older Maxima, and it has auto up and down on all windows. I like it, too but not enough to go through the hassle to try to install it.

Cornbread -- where the heck do you park that you get spiders in your car if you leave your windows open?!!?!?

Yeah, try it with a empty water bottle or something. Well, if you have a Sonata you could try it.

I've always wanted an "Auto-All-4-Windows-Down" button.

I've always wanted to be able to stick my key in the door, turn it, hold it, and have all the windows go up/down like on the Volkswagens.

Altron makes a kit for the elantra. There are actually two kits, one for the two front windows auto up and down or a kit for all four windows auto up and auto down. The kit basically plugs into the driver auto down switch and you gotta wire a ground/battery/ignition.

My stepdad's BMW 740iL does that ... with the remote, including the sunroof. It's a sweet feature. The correct button on the remote also adjusts the steering angle/depth, mirrors, presets on the stereo, seat position and a whole crap load of other adjustments for each individual driver. Now THAT'S luxury!

amperage and all that sutff "HAH!" in my old sable the passenger switch stopped working .. so i did the dumbest thing ever and just took the panel off and wired the passenger wires into the drivers. Then that switch controlled both! im sure that was bad on some level, but whatever it worked lol

I looked at WebTech last night, and copied the wiring diagram for the Sonata Window Switch on the driver's side. And I copied an '05 wiring diagram too, for comparison. I'm having trouble trying to put in a format that will work on here.

Anyway, it looks like it's just the way it's wired, with the grounds doing different things. It's interesting to look at, and if I had enough time, I'd try and figure it out enough to attempt to rewire my switches.

I'll see what I can do to post up the stuff I copied.

The switch itself is a little different on the Sonata.

You know how on our Elantras: you can push the button down "a little bit" and the window will move while you hold the button; or you can push the button down "all the way" and it 'clicks' the window will go to auto-down mode.

On the Sonata, there is also a 'click' up for the window to go into auto-up mode.

Ahhh... Okay, well then, I'm back to being clueless again. At least I stay out of trouble that way:D
