A lot of us here have made posts in the past about motorcycles they have/had/want. Just curious about the general consensus of our forum about motorcycles.

(wait for the poll to show up, it takes a minute)

See, I'm on the fence in my own thread. A month ago I would have voted never have, never will. A few of my friends have motorcycles, and I think that they are incredibly dangerous (due to other drivers in 3000-pound killing machines).

Then, about 2 weeks ago I was sitting around a campfire with my wife and friends and mentioned that it might be neat to have one for a little while, to which my wife said "you should get one, I know you'd be really safe and responsible with one." Now, I don't know how many of you are married, but when your wife gives you permission to get ______, you go get ______ before she changes her mind. Perhaps she just said that knowing my feelings, but it made me think owning one wouldn't be terrible. She wants a scooter, which I think would be neat (even though it's just as dangerous with other motorists).

I don't think I'm responsible enough to drive one carefully. Also, I wouldn't want to get hit while riding one.

I don't mind that other people have them though, I'm not an anti-motorcyclist or something.

id love to have one, but i know i'd end up killing myself on it, which is why i choose not to have one

whats funny is a few days ago i was talking to someone, and my girlfriend goes "i told him that he cant have a motorcycle, which is why he doesnt have one"...after i quickly put her in check, i let the person know that the reason i dont have one is because i tell MYSELF i cant have it, if i want to live to see 23

I used to have one when I was younger, but people in their cars think they own the road.

I may get one in the future, depending on where I end up working after graduation.

Mike get one, just ride responsibly and ride geared up. I ride knowing if it is my time to go, then it doesn't matter what you are on/in.

And you know I am married with kids, so the last thing I would want to happen is losing them. I try to stay clear of the obvious things, like downtown traffic in the middle of rush hour.

Never have, never will. Grew up on quads and could never get used to 2 wheels w/ a motor. Even if I trusted myself on one, there are too many idiots on the road I wouldn't feel safe with.

I never had a motorcycle, and never will.

For the simple fact that a couple years back in Cancun I crashed going 30 on a rented bike.... I don't feel in control when on a bike.

I'm guessing that you havent ridden much before
see if you can get a weekend off and go take the MSF class. they should provide you with a bike to learn on, as well as a helmet for around $220.

I'd recommend that over running out and buying a bike. I'd also recommend resisting the urge to buy a nice shiny new bike for your first one. there are some starter bikes that have very consistent re-sale values that you can ride for a while and sell to someone else at what you paid for it.

dont forget to buy gear!

Had mine short of 10 years now. Bought it at 23. There's something different about riding a bike than driving a car, even if I'm racing the car. You become so much more aware of everything around you. Sights, smells . . .everything is different. Just one more reason I will keep it as long as it's running. Being a Honda (note correct spelling) it'll be on the road for a while.

i will not ride anything with an engine that has less than 4 wheels.

^Then you're missing out on one of the good things in life.

I have nothing against those scared of bikes and choosing not to ride. That's perfectly fine. It's the ones that preach to me about how unsafe they are and how I must be completely unhinged to even WANT to ride one, let alone actually use it as transportation to work.

I don't feel like I'm missing out. I get that "I can feel and sense more of the world around me" when I drive a convertable car. I don't care who rides what. more power to you if you like to ride bikes; but I will never ride one, ever.

it's not the same as the openness of a motorcycle

maybe if you ditch the windshield and all of the body panels and sit up on a bench and steer the car with handlebars... THEN it'll be the same.

Not even then. When riding a bike you become part of the ride. You lean into corners, you become one with the turn.

Yeah definitely a total different experience riding a bike than driving a car. Grant it; I only have a 06 ninja ex250 but that little bike hauls!

I know say it; I drive a girls bike!

Evan, having almost come to the end of 23, it makes me want a bike even more.

I used to ride a lot in Australia when I lived there. Had my license and a guy at work would let me have his bike anytime he was working and I wasn't. So I put a lot of miles on that thing. All you have to do is wear the right gear, and ride safely.

Finally talked my wife into letting me have one. Now I just have to buy a house and a second car first. I think it will work out good though. A friend of mine has a 600 yamaha naked bike, and he will be looking at going bigger by the time I'm wanting a bike.
