Resident Evil 5 Trailer (http://www.gametrailers.com/player/21466.html)
The game will take place in Africa/Haiti location ... but of course, it's now being called a racist game because the zombies are black and the main character is white ... GREAT!
Blacklooks on RE5 (http://kotaku.com/gaming/zombie-racism/black-looks-on-re-5-racism-284725.php)
I call that BS ... we will now have to picture white only as enemies in video games? Why not male only, just to be sure games aren't sexist also? But then, aren't thay call us racist 'cause theres only white characters in games???
Sorry if this offends any black in here but use your brain, killing an ennemy in a game is killing an ennemy, either black, asian, latin or caucasian. Oh! and a games with a black guy killing white people isn't racist ... right?
Being that the Resident Evil serie are zombie oriented games I think it's cool that they explore it's origins : Afro-Caribbean Vodoo.
Seriously I fail to see any racism in that game and I'm quite disapointed to see how fast the racism card is thrown these days! :(
Discuss but please keep it clean!

This thread is going to open a can of worms.
Its hard to have an adult-like conversation on here about race, religion, etc. It almost always heads towards close-mindedness and not being able to understand someone else's position.
For example, during the Imus thing, someone on Eclub said he wouldnt vote for Obama, because of the way the black community handled the situation. It was their way of getting back at the black community. Truly ignorant.
Arguments about this game being racist are also ignorant, seeing as the game isnt even out.
I sorta agree with PSU. While I do think political correctness has gotten out of hand, the issue lies in where you draw the line between being politically correct, and being offensive. (Ex. Calling all asian people, chinese, is offensive. Especially to Japanese ppl.)

Well I didn't posted this right away, I talked about that game with 3 co-workers (that are black) and they had the same reaction as mine and everyone else (well at least the normal ones. loll) : "That game is racist because the zombies are black ... WTF!?!?!"
But hey, there is always someone somewhere to be offended by things that basically aren't at all ... meh!

Boo frickin hoo. PC is an impossibility. Someone, somewhere, sometime, someplace will be pissed off about something, somewhere from someone.
First off: It's a VIDEO GAME about ZOMBIES. Neither portion of that is real. Not applicable to real life.
I'm actually the one who said he wouldn't vote for Obama (now there's a few more reasons, liek he's an idiot politician) because of using the race card during the Imus crap. ANY politician throwin' the race card loses all respect from me.
As for the closed-mindedness, those throwing that around tend to be the MOST closeminded. You ignore what someone else says and label them close minded because they won't bend to your beliefs. Guess what, on things as politically charged as race and religion, people WILL NOT AGREE. Ever. There's a difference between listening and understanding someone's opinion and changing your opiniopn to suit them. Big difference.
IMO, those that constantly throw out the race card and point out "gaps" in society are the ones creating a racial incident. They are the ones creating this racial "gap" in society. The more they harp on the littlest thing, the longer it will remain on the minds of the masses. We as a society are stupid and forget silly things that are of no consequence, things like the color of skin. In all honesty, in the majority of the US most people no longer care about someones skin color. THey care more about the person inside. There will ALWAYS be cases of racism, stupidity, carelessness. But that's LIFE. Learn to deal with it.

Agreed. But the thing is, rather than just say something how it is, you have people pussyfooting in circles around it for hours because they are afraid to lose face.
For a game thats supposed to be based in Africa/Haiti, its logical you would have zombies based on the local population rather than zombies based on say, Australians. Unless all the zombies came from unlucky tourists.

That's easy. Attention. What do you think Al Sharpton and Jesse Jackson have done for the last 20 years? Garner attention on themselves. Period. Neither one has done ANYTHING to help their so called racial tensions. They HAVE succeeded in causing more tensions though. . . gotta give them that. But what do you expect from a pair of loudmouthed hypocrites.

if the game does anything it bolsters the hatred of black zombies already present in the well-established hatred of zombies in general. It teaches us that no matter what color they are on the outside, flesh-hungry reanimated dead people are really fundamentally the same, and should probably be avoided at all costs. When the zombie apocalypse comes, I'd like to think that mankind will band together regardless of race or nationality in the name of preserving the future of humanity and the safety of our precious brainmeats.

I just added the Black Looks article in the first post : http://www.blacklooks.org/2007/07/resident_evil_5.html
And here is a part of the article that proves it's just to stir up **** :
This is problematic on so many levels, including the depiction of Black people as inhuman savages, the killing of Black people by a white man in military clothing, and the fact that this video game is marketed to children and young adults. Start them young… fearing, hating, and destroying Black people.
A zombie video game marketed for children??? is this guy even on the planet earth???

^ nice find Jared.
Since this is on the topic of race, I was corrected about 2 years ago about something. The media and the government refer to the black population as African Americans. As it turns out, the black population hates that label. They would prefer to be called black, like white people prefer to be called white ( intead of Caucasian: what the hell is that word supposed to mean anyway, I find it offensive myself ).
Anyway, back o/t, great find. And stupid reasoning people can have about the littlest thing. It's a dang shame that everything in this world has to be nit picked: racism, religion, hell, even the environment. It's crap.
And I agree with Bob, it's those striving for attention that ruin it for all of us. I'm pretty sure we all already live in Harmony. If we didn't, we'd be facing the times of the late 60's and 70's with continual racial riots all over the US.

No doubt we have came along way in the last 30-40 years, but there is definate room for improvement in race relations amongst all races. If everyone would be open to communication, ppl can understand where the other is coming from why things are the way they are in their respective communities.

The problem is NOT understanding, it's the fact that both sides want to "convert" the other. It's not that people don't listen, or comprehend. It's that they want to change the other side to their way of thinking. That's where the problems arise.

^ There is always improvement every where in life. I will always agree with that.
I was raised in a one income family for a while, my dad was in the Navy. My sister and I wanted a lot of things when we were kids. And the yearning feeling were there: larger home, big yard, a dog, different toys, etc. etc.
Now-a-days, kids..... I can't even begin to talk about that. All I can say is that my 3 children that live with me and the 1 that doesn't will have whatever I can feasibly give them, but I will always leave them wanting more. The only thing I really have to give them is Love, and to be honest, that is all that they seem to want. And for that, I thank my parents for raising me the way they did, so I can instill the same ideals into my own children.

I think there is an issue with understanding someone else of a different ethnicity. They see X person, and assume "blank" about them based on skin color. By having open communication, ppl can get a better understanding of how/why/etc a certain group does something. There is always a history behind something. Im sure communication could clear up alot of people's misconceptions of x ppl.

You laugh but its true. I grew up middle class, in a high income mostly-white area. It would amaze me some of the misconceptions people would have. I was a smart kid (above avg/honors classes through middle school and high school) so many times I was the only black kid in the whole class. People use to ask me: If black ppl were naturally athletic and fit? Assume I was poor, and couldnt afford to go on a field trip or buy x supply.
It was cool and weird. There was good and bad tho. Probably the worst single event was when I heard my (white) gf's dad call me the n-word indirectly. Of course, you learn to deal with "check my wallet", cross the street, etc etc ppl. Walking into a room and feeling the tension. That was probably the worst of everything. Having someone treat you different, despite your effort to be the nicest person in existence, which kind of creates the whole double consciousness (similiar to Chappeles pixy skit) thing alot of middle-high class black have.
My teacher in 3rd grade used to run her hands through my hair, because she had never felt texture like it before. lol. I used to laugh at it then, but Im sure its sexual harassment now. lol

This is bull****. Chris Redfield has been killing white zombies (and dog zombies) for nearly ten years now (not only white American but white European too) and now he is making his rounds in a place where there are black zombies. They were going to pop up sooner or later. I wouldn't be worried about it, Capcom won't change the game. Or at least they better not. And, I'm sure they'll be plenty more white zombies to kill as well as sharks, big ogres, spiders, scary T-virus animals, etc. Capcom ownerizes.

It's instances like these that cause more drama than it solves. Some douche sees something he doesn't like so he blows it out of proportion trying to make it a racist issue.
