Hi guys, as you can see on my post count I am new here... but I am not new to forums nor forum rules... As I stated on my introduction thread, I am very familiar with Beta1 MAP based... I own a 98 Tib with some mods. Now I own a Kia Sportage with a 2.0 Beta2 MAF; and you are the best source of info for that kind of engine.

I have been intensively searching for more than a week now but still have some questions about the Beta2 2005+ that come with a MAF; the thing is the info is aparently there, but since you guys had the change from a MAP Beta2 to a MAF Beta2 I am getting confused in some of the threads because it's not specific if the info is for the first, the later, or both.

So here I go with my questions:

1) Are the Beta2 MAF equiped engines as sensible as the Beta1s to intake restrictions? The reason I ask; on the Beta1s just to eliminate intake restriction gave benefits up to 2-3 whp. But I've read here that some folks had trouble because of "excess intake air" or something like that...

2) As per exhaust in the Beta2 MAF based... If I understand correctly; you can take the first cat (the mani-cat) out; BUT you have to
a) Move your O2 sensors to one before the 2nd (and now only) cat and the other O2 sensor after the cat... in this case the fact that only 1 cat is working would throw a CEL (I'm confused about this)
b) Move your O2 sensors as stated above but in addition you have to instal a No-Fouler on the second O2 sensor?

3) Please allow me a bonus question... I find the Beta2 MAF engine to be a lot noisier than the Beta1 MAP; but I am not sure if it is related to it being solid lifters instead of HLAs, or because something else, or I have to get shims regulated, or it's just because in the mini suvs engines work harder to move the additional weight...

At this point; THANKS for having read my post and I hope you can help me...

anyone can correct me if i'm wrong
1) hmm i haven't read about "excess intake air" but to get the optimal flow most members here find that 2.75" tubing is best where there is enough air speed for lower end power to mid range but 3" tubing is best for the upper range rpms i think

2) when and if you get a header yes the O2 sensors will have to be moved, the first sensor to the collector where it can read from all 4 cylinders, now since you removed the first cat via putting a header in the second O2 sensor should be moved to a location behind a cat otherwise you'll get a cel

think of it in this order header > O2 sensor > cat > O2 sensor

B) you shouldn't have to install a non-fouler ont he second O2 if you have a cat before it, there are many on here that don't need the non-fouler

3)I dunno

^ What he said.

Well, #3, it could be any number of things. I've owned the Beta II (MAP) and I now have a MAF based Beta II. Engine noise has remained the same between both. However, both were Elantras. The difference between a car and the SUV can be any number of things. First of all, the SUV sits higher of the ground, allowing engine noise to echo off the pavement. Secondly, the motor does have to kind of work harder to move the heavier vehicle, but I can't offer any other info about that.

BTW, welcome to the site.

Well thanks guys, that helps.
Just to clarify, the 1st question is regards a Beta2 MAF, that's why I was asking about the "excess air" thing (maybe you have to rest the ECU after changing intake ie. installing a CAI). I guess a 3" is not an option if you have the MAF, since the MAF itself is around 2.5" right?

As for the question 3) my intention was to share experience with someone that might have owned a Beta1 before and a Beta2 now... idk, maybe it's not the engine type but MY specific engine.

Anyway thanks for your answers; and any other thoughts wouldbe welcome
;)
