Get up just like any other monday, crappy outside, no big deal.
Arrived at work just to get told that I wasn't needed anymore because the shop I was working in just started and i guess we weren't doing as well as the owner wanted to and didn't really need a "helper". 'sigh'
Not really mad or anything just disappointed because i really liked that job. Time to call around then I think i'm headed up to PA to see a buddy of mine i haven't seen in awhile and of course throw back some cold ones.
OH and as of right now my vacation to Florida, the one i ALWAYS take is cancelled since it was supposed to go in 2 weeks and i can't really start a new job then just take off a full week, we might go around x-mas time but i don't know.

sit and spin???
I've been looking around in the phone book and calling speed shops to see if any of them are hiring since thats what i really want to do. Then i'm going to start calling around to the dealers, hell when i'm up in pa I may look around up there for a job because my buddy offered me a room in his house for a good deal. i dunno though, we'll see how things go.

Fuk that, they should have called you last night at least, if not last Friday! That's BS!

whenever I've been fired, they called me at home. the only place that didn't do this was CompUSA - they fired me randomly after my lunch break on my 89th day there (the day before I'd be eligible for benefits). apparently I wasn't selling enough (maybe that's because they never gave me a register code, so everything I sold was actually "sold" by other people's register IDs???)
oh well they are going bankrupt anyway haha.
sorry to be off-topic, but basically don't let it get you down. use it as a learning experience and find something better - if they didn't see you as an asset then you didn't want to stay there anyway.
dealerships can be good if you need some cash. tell them you want to make money. avoid used car dealerships. if you're good at it you'll be loaded in no time - the problem is it's hard to be "good at it"... there's a good write-up somewhere about a guy who went undercover for edmunds.com ? (I think) and was a car salesman at a few different types of dealerships. he gives awesome tips for both prospective salespeople and car buyers.

That really sucks man. Don't worry too much and keep at it, and remember...you'll be an asset to whoever hires you.

well! got an interview at a very busy shop up in wye mills (for anyone familiar with the area) tomorrow at 5pm. it seems very promising, everything else has been a kind of bust so far. None of hte dealers i wanted to work for are hiring at the moment. I'm going to call one other place tomorrow that i'm told needs a tech and if that doesn't work then I guess i'm going to have to abandon the auto field for a little bit for the sake of money.

I can tell you most shops are dead right now. In all honesty, the days of turning wrenches and making big money have been gone for a while. Between warranty work, hack shops and longer maintenance intervals, everyone is hurting.

In all honesty, i'm not really in it for the money. What I'd REALLY like to do is work in a performance shop but i know thats hard to get into and theres none by me.
From what this shop told me they are very busy, like SWAMPED busy becaue a tech of theirs just left. If i can't be a tech, I may look into a machine shop or something like that just to stay working on cars. If that all fails then I'll go after a heavy equipment operator since I have a class B license.

At 25, I had been through so many different jobs. most because the company didn't last. Shoot, I changed oil, worked many Wal-Mart positions, AutoZone (ended up in management before leaving), I loaded semis with overhead ride-in cranes, loaded them with 15-ton forklifts, loaded aircraft and ended up in the dealerships. Considering I didn't start working until I was 18, and spent 3 years with Wal-Mart I was in a pretty continous state of upheaval.

^ Ouch Bob, sounds like my work history. Only 1 stable job in 10 years of employment. Been a floater for most of it.
James, I'll let you know tomorrow evening what I find out from my job. Also, good luck with the interview tomorrow, and I do hope you get the job.

And when they reach your elbow, the rides over.
Sorry you got canned Cypher. This just opens the door for something potentially better. Good luck in the hunt!

I may take and take a trip down around christmas time if things permit but I'm not sure how things will work out. It sure would be nice to get away from the cold weather I get up here!
Thx guys, Today I'm running up to Easton to go apply at Camcraft (a speed shop) then over to John's (05xd) dealer that he works at to apply then i'm going to that interview. I have a pretty good feeling about today!

well, applied at the cam regrinding place, hyundai dealer and the other shop.
The cam place is real busy right now but said in the fall they'd probably look into hiring me so they could train me for the busy time, and the other place i went to primarily works on bigger diesels which i don't really have any experience on sooo nothing today.
Tomorrow i'll hit up the newspaper and look for jobs driving since i have a Class B license, i'm also reapplying at the job i had before the one i just got fired at. I was looking in the star democrat and theres a "warehouse clerk" position open with benefits and whatnot so i'm going to call them tomorrow to see if they still have it.
I'm also going to call a couple dealers up in York, Pa. I have friends up there I could stay with and all the dealers are real close so if i could find a dealer that would actually be willing to train me and everything thats what i want to do, and at this point i'm just about dying to get out of my mom's house because i just hate it. ah, life is great eh? lol

I live at home too. It sucks balls.
My company is going through renovations. We hired a new GM, and a company will be buying us out. Even though the mechanics have a union, if I get fired maybe I can come rent an appartment with you ! hah
