My girlfriend works 3rd shift at a BP gas station here in town, and at 4am this morning she was robbed. The guy came in the back door, (which hadn't closed all the way when she took out trash) grabbed her around the neck, threw her into a wall, busted her nose and demanded she open the drawer. She did as she was told, then he demanded she open the safe, which she couldn't do. He then started to punch her and choke her, repeatedly demanding to open the safe, until he finally gave up and left with $142 and a carton of cigarettes.
I awoke to a text message saying "I was just robbed..."..and when I tried to reply and call back, I got nothing, which immediately set me in a panic. I drove the three miles in what seemed like 30 seconds. (115 in a 45) and when I arrived all three cops on duty last night were already there and wouldn't let me in.
After the manager showed up, along with a detective, they let me in to see her and make sure she was alright. The manager and I watched the security tapes, which is how I found out exactly what happened...and it was real hard to watch. I can't believe someone would do something like this to a defenseless 19 year-old.
The plus side, however, is the guy wasn't smart enough to conceal his face, so we have a crystal clear image of what he looks like, so he won't be on the loose for too long. But now Sherri is afraid to go to work.
This would have never happened in this town ten years ago, but our dickhead mayor decided it would be a good idea to build strip mall after strip mall, movie theatres, housing additions, and the such, nearly quadrupling the size of the sity within ten years. Since then, the crime rate has risen around 300%, and it hasn't really bugged me much until now. Kinda sad how it has to be a personal occurance to make a difference.
But for $142? Seriously...that's pathetic.
She has a broken nose, a few scratches and bruises, but I think it hurt her more mentally than anything. That's a lot to go through in one night.

Sucks, sorry to hear it. Crime doesn't pay - well, it pays $142 in this instance, but that's definately not worth hurting somebody and the jail time when he does get caught.

Sorry to hear your girlfriend got beat up over a few measly bucks. Tell her to get well quickly! I was robbed at gunpoint a long time ago and it does hurt your psyche a bit.
Let's hope you find the bastard first and get a chance to spend a little quality time with him.
that is totally ****ed.
im so sorry to hear that. i was jumped once and it was years ago and theres a part of me now that is still bothered by it. i was only hit a few times so it sounds like this was ever worse.
i also had a friend working night shift at a hollywood video. manager decided it was a good idea to let a 18yr old girl weighing in at 100 lb close up the store alone on friday/sat nights. the area isnt terrible but it borderes a low class area.. needless to say she quit after being robbed and having a gun held to her face for the second time...
people fekin suck

Nothing quite changes your outlook on things like having a loaded gun pointed at you. Not a fun feeling.

What about waking up on the ground in the woods next to a couple of used condoms with an aching butthole after partying with some frat brothers the night before?http://forums.mazdaworld.org/style_emoticons/default/ph34r.gif

As long as she ends up being OK it's going to be a cool story to tell. Or at least that's how I'd look at it. (Always thinking positively again).

She's doing a lot better. I gave her a few k-pins and she calmed down real quick.
It really is amazing how many people we had come talk to us or call us asking about how she was. That's the thing I love about being in a small town...I know almost everyone here. Including every police officer. We even had one of the officers offer her his gun, but she turned it down. She's not a big fan of firearms.
She still plans on working there, but i'm going to convince her manager to switch her shifts, third shift will just scare the hell out of her now. EVery step she takes, every thing she does, she will constantly look over her shoulder and expect the worst. Even though there's a cop within yelling distance 24 hours of the day now.
I appreciate all the support, guys, it means a lot to me. You're just a few of the many people who offered to take matters into their own hands..and trust me, I would love to as well. I want nothing more than to give that ****ing coward what he deserves. But he will get what's coming to him, soon enough.

Good Greif! I'm very sorry she was assaulted, and I'm also glad that it wasn't worse. Sometimes victims think they themselves did something to bring on their assault. Bottom line - she did just what she should have done in that situation, so she shouldn't blame herself in any way.
As for punishment of the creep, just think of what will happen to that guy in jail / prison when his fellow inmates find out he was put there for assaulting a 19 year old girl!
Convenience store workers have a very high risk for exposure to violence http://www.crimedoctor.com/workplace_violence_2.htm. For her safety, I would recommend that you help her get a job anywhere other than in a convenience store.

I am really sorry to hear about this. I don't know what this world is coming to anymore. Is it really worth hurting someone, and throwing your life away for $146 and a carton of smokes?
Tell her to get better, and take care.

Well, she's taken a much-needed vacation, I dropped her off at the airport around 3:00pm to head to New York for her grandpa's 70th birthday, until Monday morning, that is. Too bad the flight was delayed, she missed her crossover, and now she is stuck in Cleveland until another flight at 7 in the morning.
I'm afraid to say anything, as to jinx her flight, but I really wish I could be there for her..she's having a rough week. Understandably.

But for $142? Seriously...that's pathetic.
In one of the criminal cases, where I was invited as an appointed counsel, two people (mother and her son) were killed for just a carton of cigarettes.
