View Full Version : Damn School.

I have to vent.
So we have one week to ''tweak'' our schedules at school.
It comes in ''automatically'' giving you a rough schedule that usually is packed with too big holes and whatnot. No big deal.
Problem #1: The automated schedule I got already had conflicting courses (i.e. two courses given at the same exact time). No biggie. I'll change it right?
Problem #2: I try everything but it is impossible to get a schedule without conflicts. OK. I switch around a couple courses, dump some not-so-important ones to take some more advanced ones and also to finish up my math for good. Even then, it won't work! The mofo is always conflicting. And 80% of the classes are already full.
So after a while I get to the point where only one course is conflicted with another, but twice. So I figure I'll just drop that course and stick to 4 courses instead of 5 for this semester. No biggie.
Problem #3: With those 4 courses I only have 11 credits whereas we need at least 12 to be considered ''full-time'' students and not pay a crazy fee.
So there I am, cursing this damn school system and their computerized BS. I figure I'll try to take some rejected type of 4-th year course (I'm in second year) such as Engineering Economics or something. ALL of them are full! I can't believe it! On top of it I was there online on the first hour when they opened the system. It stays open for a week.
Problem #4: I call at school and explain my problem: they tell me that they can't do more than what I can do, and to just wait a day or two and try again in case some students make switches and spots become available. Bunch of BS.
Now I am pissed. I was REALLY looking forward for back-to-school, but now this is GAH!!!!
I spent nearly 4 hours on this POS trying to mingle around with it last night and today....

I would add some 1-credit BS course, just to get you full time... then after you get all your other courses figured out, drop that one off. At least you don't have to worry about that part of it then.

On a side note, Im ready to go back. Two more years of comp sci to go. I like it tho, and am already receiving some of the benefits.

^^^^
Yeah, the schedule is "randomly" (sp?) generated (well kinda) and when you receive it YOU (read: the student) have the responsability to make sure there are no conflicts ... so yeah it sucks.

I deal with the eSIS system every year. The computer does not see the class load or conflicts. When it first came out several years ago, a lot of high school classes in 1 school had 60 kids in a class intended for 20 and 10 in a class intended for 28. When you have a contracted *cap* of 28 students, it gets into a host of other issues teacher related.
I prefer a manual entry of a class schedule, not automated.

I called again and again to no avail, I'm going down there.
Hyunelan I tried the BS courses but they're ALL full! WTF!
Wish me luck for tomorrow!
Well I just came back and they basically told me they can't do anything for me because I am not in the ''normal'' 2nd year course since I have a couple first year ones and a couple of advanced ones to take that I was supposed to take next semester.
I put in an application to remove a prerequisite from a course which would unblock another course for me to have more options, but god knows if the guy is going to accept it... Now the waiting game starts.

Nah they make a crude one for those who are lazy and then you can change it around lol There are 4000+ students here or else it would be chaos.

are you saying that its not chaos because your school is so small?
I think there are like 20k here and everyone makes their own schedules.

^^^Agreed. I went to a school of about 13K, and everyone made their own schedules. In fact, this is the first time I've every heard of something making your schedule for you (except for high schools, and such).

Let's see if I can top that.
Back in 1997 when I started at the University of Central Florida, there were 33k+ students.
In 2007, there are almost 45k students attending the Main campus, with two or other 3 branch campuses in other counties/cities.

LOL guys I guess I said it wrong, I was talking about the number of people in my program :)
It doesn't make you a schedule, but rather gives you a baseline.
So basically, I make my schedule. But, if I don't feel like it, I already have another option.
This is to make it convenient in case you can't get good seats in the group you wanted or something of the sort I guess. But in my case it fux0red it all. But now all is good so that's what counts :D
Haha, high school. I wish. Things were so much simpler back then.

I just bought one book that cost $150. All about unions. and most businesses in my field have never even heard of unions (except Disney perhaps).
I feel some of you pain Kewlkat, I got kicked out of one of my courses two days before classes began, leaving me to scramble to find another one. So now I'm stuck with Labor and Employee relations. Wooooooo.
we have 42-45k students here at main campus and maybe 2-5k at each branch campus. And everyone here makes their own schedules.

My two books are $71 and $50 new (all the used ones were gone). That's not too bad.
