illuminated key ring?

That would be my guess. I'm gonna convert mine to blue LEDs soon, if that's it I'll let you know.

i think its an extra for testing some of the systems before it leaves the factory.

Well, do you have either cruise control or the illuminated ring around the ignition?

I thought it was the line input for the Flux capacitor! But i'm pretty sure it's for cruise control.

Like the episode of the simpsons where homer goes crazy adding things to his car, and sends the fax as his car is sinking because he was doing too much at once!!

It may be for the versions of Elantras that have the transponder/immobilizer anti-theft system.

so in theory you just find an illuminated key ring and plug it there and you are good to go. too easy. if thats the case im gonna do it. my 91 camry has one and my XD doesnt. makes me so mad.

In theory, you are correct. I did it. However, that plug is not for the illuminated key ring. The plug for the key ring has four wires for both the illumination for the key ring and for a pressure switch in the ignition cylinder. I'm not sure what that one is for. Horn?

I believe that one is for the armored version of the elantra available in Mexico city and south africa. It connects to the remote flame throwers that mount behind the wheels.

Anytime you have a connector with a jumper in it like that, it's usually for diagnostic purposes.
