Thursday i went to Nick's (EliteWarMachine from NT) house for help installing the Inovate Wideband o2 sensor and controller with datalogging. showed up around 830am had some breakfast, really didnt start working till after 9am. first thing we did was relocate the stock o2 sensor to a bung i had welded months ago downstream of my high flow cat.

after a quick drive, in nicks turboed v6 tib, to PepBoys so i can get an o2 sensor socket, we were moving!
nick sodered the connections for the o2 sensor extension wire and then we wire loomed that.

ziptied it to the fire wall so it was easily accessable and out of the way.

one of the most time consuming things was getting all those wires through the firewall. we used the center location which is a really tight grommet. finally got the wires though and sodered the connections to the gauges and power/grounds.

some wire loom to clean it up!
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v484/SurferJ4/ElantraGT%20Pics/DSC03197.jpg

we mounted the callibration LED and Button on the coin bin to the left of the
steering wheel. and put the COM Port wire for data logging in there (this location may move to the passenger side storage bin under the vent to allow easy acces to a laptop on the passenger side. for now it will stay where it is)

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v484/SurferJ4/ElantraGT%20Pics/DSC03199.jpg

used the Compact Divisions fiberglass OEM replacement pillar. had a little fitment issues, really should screw it in (right now just velcro and weather stripping holding it in) i also put my boost gauge in and wired that up. i have the vaccum/boost hose running to the engine bay right now waiting for some boost!

it took a while to get everything working right. it was hard to figure out the wireing diagrams. also there were 2 anaolog outputs and they didnt say which was which. 50/50 chance and we got it wrong. anyway, Nick was able to use the software to change the settings and we got it working. also he was able to change the refreshing time (originally the #'s were jumping around too fast to read)

its hard to gauge the total install time with all the cigarette breaks, and nick leaving to go to the dentist to get a filling. we started after 9am, and i left at 4pm. thanks for spending your day off working on my car Nick.

afterwards we went down the road to a parking lot and snapped a few pics.

You ain't going to like my answer that much, but SEARCH ! ! !

Ha ha, we've got a sticky in the N/A forum that will take you directly to where you need to go for that answer. Don't want to hijack Justin's thread here, if you know what I mean.

Justin: Wow, that looks incredible. That gauge is the perfect blue color to compliment XD2 gauges, which is too bad, since you've got the XD. But it looks good anyway.

So, he's got a V6 Tibby that's boosted huh? Can you get pics of his engine bay, and start another thread for it?

You should do the install that I did. It really does hold the pod extremely well.
Here is a link. (http://www.elantraxd.com/forums/showthread.php?t=23208)

Nice, but I gotta say that you guys need to work on your soldering a lot, sorry. I hope it won't short out, pinch, or corrode on you. Even for the 4 O2 wires...

Other than that good job!

Thanks.... i dont soder, never have. Nick was incharge of that, and he just slapped some on. i have never sodered a connection, and never had a problem. but, when it comes time for the SMT-6 install, i willl be sodering

Justin, at least try to spell it right: solder, like soldier, with no "i".

Anyway, things like that, you really do want to have soldered. You don't want voltage draining off into limbo. You need a perfect and constant connection of all the wires, tied in by the solder, to get all the voltage across from one wire to the next.

And as mentioned, it is easy. But to get perfect at it, and get it do what you want it to do, and not be clumpy, it takes practice. Play around with it when ever you get a chance, like with your HU, redoing the O2, etc. Well before you get the SMT-6 anyway. Those wires need to be as perfect as possible.

if you want a good trick...

Take the two wires, and twist them together in a linear twisted shape, think about the DNA model back in high school, and solder.

That way, you can put some heat shrink on it and it looks almost like you haven't done anything to it.

thanks for the tip.... i'll definately practice. and Felix i understand what ur saying, i'll try that on my headunit!

you guys rock!

KeWLKaT

also when you solder:

often people touch the soldering metal on the tip and make it drip over the wires. that is incorrect.

the correct way to solder is to put the tip on the material you will be soldering (in this case the wires) for, say 10-15 seconds until they heat up, then take the solder (the grey metal thingy that melts) and touch that to the WIRES and not the tip of the soldering iron.... Once you get that right, you will notice the difference instantly. The solder goes INSIDE of the connection, around, and through, instead of just on top. This ensures YEARS of corrosion-free use.

good luck and post pics :)

correct (also has the pattern I suggested):

incorrect (notice the splotches, huge amounts of unneeded solder, and gaps):

I'm getting denis to port my intake manifold... hopefully. But, the crap is, I have to replace my cat now which will cost me a bit more than a hundred bucks with install, so I guess the porting could wait? we'll see...
