k so i got a check engine light and got my dad to go to the dealership and show them because i was due for an oil change and i was working that day. so they look and tell my dad its the intake. my dad tells them that it only goes on after we put fuel in. so they say that its the pressure in the gas tank:confused:. so my dad is like what should i do? and they say they dont know and that what ever it is its not covered due to my aftermarket intake. and when he told me i went like WTF and when i look at the invoice it says"CHECK ENGINE LIGHT ON- Tech comments: suspect check engine light is coming on due to aftermarket engine modification" . i had that intake for 10,000 km now and no problems. my dad says he doesn't think they even checked it because they couldn't give him the code number. i will be starting another thread about this to find out what it is. but i was just so pissed off and so was my dad and now they lost another customer because my dad wanted to get a santa fe but now he will go to another dealership. well i know i wont be getting anything else from focus hyundai

Go to an auto parts and get the code read and find out for yourself. If it's not the intake warranty is supposed to cover it. You have only voided the warranty on parts replaced w/ aftermarket ones.

you intake would have absolutely nothing to do with any check code...unless its the maf....
the only thing they could claim (if your map or maf based) would be hydrolocking....but short from that...
i would demand a print out of the GDS scan and the corresponding codes.
if you have pressure in your gas tank....that would have to do with your evaportive system not a cold air intake!! hahah

sounds like BS.
go to autozone or advance auto parts or any other place that has the ODB sensor reader - unless it's some sort of INTAKE related code, they HAVE TO COVER IT under the law. replacing a part on your car does not void the entire warranty (as said above) only the warranty of the part you replaced and/or parts affected by your after market modification.
this is posted online somewhere. its a federal law. they HAVE TO cover it. if they still refuse, either (A) go to a different dealer or (B) threaten to get a lawyer.

Isn't this the SAME person who's self-installed restrictor plate caused the CEL? So, in effect it IS the "aftermarket engine modifications".
So what exactly is the complaint then? YOU put something on that does not belong and it caused a problem and they won't warranty it. Sounds perfectly NORMAL to me. . . but what do I know.

it depends on what code he's getting.
but yeah, restrictor plate might have caused a code.

k so i took it to another dealership and they told me the IAC valve is throwing the code. so the restriction plate will be coming off.
This is from E-Club.

ya but they told my dad it was the short ram intake that caused it. and now that i found out from another dealer that its the IAC i know what has happened. but still it annoys me i had to drive to another dealer to get a real answer about why i have an CEL.

If the gas cap is not tight you will get a CEL. Make sure the cap clicks at least 3 times so you know it's tight. This info is listed in the owners manual.

I do. Bought it in July of 2006 and love the thing.

i remember telling people that the IAC needed to be open...
another reason why it needs to be open is so the engine can "quick idle" when you let off the gas so the car does not stall...your providing insuffeicent air flow through it....so thats probably where that code came from....:D
as far as the air intake giving a CEL...thats crap...its just tubing!
