OK, an interesting proposition was presented tome lastnight (LATE!) and got me to wondering. . . .IF I did a rear drum-disc swap would that change my class?
I know the GLS COULD have come with Discs, and all the GT's DID. But my particular example did not.
HELP!

Yes, I think it would make the car much classier :D

No, it should not, at least according to the rules I've read. As long as its oem equipment available in the US, you'll be fine.

I don't see why it would, but I'm not knowledgable on the autocross regulations.
If they ask, tell them the discs were considered an extra option that came standard on GT's but not on GLS's.
I don't think it would change your overall performance drastically enough to change your class.

What he said.
I thought you said your rears have a problem locking up at first anyways?

I do, but this swap also involves fronts with HAwks and drilled/slotted rotors in the front.

Oh...
So basically you are telling yourself ''if I upgrade the front and change classes i might aswell do the rears too'' (assuming the front upgrade would change your class)

Sorry, unaware of those classes! I would've thought that drilled rotors would but i guess i'm wrong!

Drilled/slotted OK. AS long as theyt are STOCKK sizes. So a Tib upgrade would swap me classes.

Basically: If it's going to bump me up, I'll just upgrade the frts and live with the drums for a while longer. If not. . .I'd be stupid to pass up d/s rotors and hawk pads all the way around.
Well, the rules guy from SCCA got back to me. here was his response:
The short answer is, “No.”
There is no allowance for update/backdate in Street Touring. So if you’d like to convert to the rear discs, you’d also have to convert it to the sunroof, or with ABS and TCS or as a GT which offered leather seats except for the VIN. In other words, it’d have to be just like a 2002 Elantra purchased from the dealer. (Just like in Stock category.) The rear disc conversion by itself would be allowed in Street Prepared, Street Modified, etc
So if I do this, I will be bumped up a class. Damnit.

you could just do it and hope no one notices
the actual "performance" you get from it isn't worthy of a class upgrade. there are guys who do all sorts of insane upgrades that keep them in their classes and give them a much bigger advantage than you'd get from rear disc.
I have D/S rotors and they let me stay stock.
