Hey all. I'm looking at the maintenance log for my 05' Elantra, and I noticed I should replace the Fuel tank air filter @ 30,000 miles. I have ~45,000 and never did it. What is that? Is it expensive? Can I do it myself?
BTW: I did search and found only posts about fuel filters. The search engine didn't recognize quotes like Google.

well it is the fuel filter thats what its called cause it filters the fuel, there is no such thing as a fuel air filter

yeah there is nothing like a fuel air filter ... at least not that I know of!!!

Try reading the Owner's Manual again. I'm sure you've thrown in "air" where it doesn't belong.
You are correct in that the Fuel Filter should be replaced at 30,000 miles, but there's no air filter with that.
Typically, the Air Filter is changed out every 15,000 miles, and therefore, you may have mistaken what you read, when it should read: "Replace Fuel and Air Filter at 30,000 miles."

My Maintenance log says it's a "Fuel Tank Air Filter."

That's a very intriguing piece of evidence right there. Never seen that before, nor have I ever heard of it.The only thing that comes to mind that "might" have a filter in it is the charcoal canister for the gas evaporator on the left side of the car under the rear bumper. Other than that, I'm clueless. Thanks for pointing that out though.

It appears others are just as confused as us. I am going to call my dealer and see what they say.

Well the entire service dept. must be out for 2nd lunch, since all I can get are voice mails. Lame.

I doubt they will know. I couldn't even get a fuel filter from any of my local dealers. They all kept saying that the filter is in the tank and is non serviceable. Good luck with that!

When I went to my local dealer to buy my fuel filter they told me the same thing, I just told them that I have serviced it myself and described how to change it out, after that they ordered it for me. The part number is 31911-2d000.

Wow, valve clearance? They really look at that at the 30k service?

The fuel air filter is the carbon canister filter. This should be changed especially if you drive gravel roads. If this filter gets plugged up then it's hard to fill the tank and you might also get evap codes.
