Well, looks like it MIGHT Miss us here in Miami, then it might not . . right now all of florida is within the margin of error a.k.a "cone of death"(cone that shows strike probability). my TV is once again up for grabs if and or when i die. . . you will have to fight whoever is left of my family for it though. . oh and the car . . well the car belongs to hyundai motor finance of fountain valley california for another 9,989 dollars lol. we are being told that tomorrow watches and warnings will be issued and that we will know for certain(like we knew charley was gonna hit tampa) whether or not we will get hit directly or not. either way, we will feel it down here unless it totally misses south and south central florida. . . . and of COURSE this was labor day weekend that we got an extra day off from work just cause the new president of the school felt like it and we were gonna go down to the keys for a nice 4 day weekend at a secluded cottage right on duval street that was already deposited for. . . thanks a LOT frances! reckafriggin@#RE$R()&@R@^YR^@#$R!!! . . . anyway . . . yeah we'll see

My parents, sister and brother-in-law all live in Coral Springs. I'm worried now, off to find info on this Frances.

UPDATE: Ok, so that's a huge hurricane! My family is fairly far inland, that makes it better for them I would think right? I really hope it has no serious consequences for you felixr.

thanks steve, . . and see, that the thing . . thats why we are all sorta freaking out . . no one knows WHAT is gonna happen . . so i cant even say coral springs would be safe or even the keys or even orlando etc etc. . this thing might turn at the last second like charley did

no offense guys but hope it turns up north of here lol

When she hits Florida she will still be a low Cat 2 or Cat 1 when she comes out the other end. I don't think anyone in her path in the state will be okay. Charley came through on the west coast and still did damage in Daytona on the way out. Hopefully the same guy that predicted Charley is predicting Frances, if so then we will be safe because right now the path is directly over me, which means it will totally miss us - haha (Tampa which was the intended path for Charley did not even get an inch of rain).

I never noticed you were from Florida rckozma. I hope it doesn't affect you bad. Actually there's quite a few members on here that are from Florida, anyone else on the eastern side and the potential landing point?

how come i cant change the title of the thread to include an E? furthermore, check THIS OUT!!!!! > http://nbc6.feedroom.com/iframeset.jsp?ord=70463 (should be a video/still capture from space of the hurricane) let me know if it doesnt work so i can do nothing about it ;D . . oh and uhm . . what else? oh yeah, the university is having a hurricane task force meeting in half an hour to discuss watches and warnings and evacuation plans and the like. will probably get told not to come in tomorrow if we get a warning or watch. not sure yet, although we will be hearing some shelter info since we have the space not to mention over 3k students on campus and about 1k staff/faculty maybe? should be interesting . . definately scarier than charley since this is affecting us directly . . well for right now anyway. . might turn up north but i think that is just wishful thinking . . of which i share in. . . the latest updates at the top of every hour . . . actually more like whenever i remember to come back . . see ya later . . . hopefully

Took care of this for you, I believe you have to be a mod to edit it.

Just got notice that the my kids' school is closed on Friday. Me and a co-worker will be heading to Alabama tomorrow to get a generator, they are sold out everywhere in Florida. Still projected to hit us. There are a few of us in Central/East Florida. Hope everyone makes it out okay.

By the news this morning it looks like it is going to blow right though my county. I will put my 52" up for dibs if I die....That will suck b/c who ever grabs it will still have to owe. :P

Damn...I hope nothing happens to my car I just bought something from K-spec and have yet to receive it. I hope that I will be able to enjoy it.

Well, with current speed and direction, it should hit Florida about 12:30 (maybe a little earlier) on Friday. That means you have about 5 minutes to procrastinate before you go get caught in traffic trying to evacuate. I'd leave. I've weathered a storm or two before (texas coast), chased funnel clouds, and basically chanced death by weather any way I could. But I wouldn't want to stay around and see what 145mph sustained winds can do.

Oh yea... you think that TV's gonna be functional? I don't.

thanks for fixing the E. . . ive been here forever and was never awarded the honor. . . or even considered let alone patronized about anything close to any position of importance here with the last administration . . . guess i wasnt liked enough . . .anyway . . .so they are gonna evacuate 300,000 people in west palm by tomorrow. . .they are thinking it might hit lower than they thought before. . like another charley situation . . that means me lol . . as long as we survive and the keys are fine im fine . . funny thing is that our house is "in-between" insurances right now . . .hehe . . so there ya go . . .ok i guess if you didnt click on the link i gave you when i submitted it you missed out on a very cool image of frances from the space station. cause now the website has been updated to include the "latest" information and a rebroadcast of the weather forecast. which is obviously more important . . but maybe you'll be able to find it if you fiddle with the site some more. . . other than that . . i am hours away from officially canceling the key west trip(i know i know i am hanging on to hope for dear life) and -im honestly starting to get seriously worried with a borderline touch of scared . . . wow this is different when you have a family of your own to think about . . used to be it was cool cause we would miss school and pretend we were camping for two weeks with no power. . . this time im worried about my 18 month old going through this and my redneck wife who's never seen this before being traumatized, and the house being destroyed and not having anything left etc. . . wow ok gonna go be ignorant now. . . they say we will have warnings/watches by 5pm tonight at the earliest. freaky stuff

Jlivan

Redneck wife?

Stay calm, do you have an evacuation planned out?

But seriously you have to shorten the post or split up into sections....I would like to read all of what you said but then my AADD kicks in and I loose intrest. :P

I live in Coral Springs as well (Wiles Road and Coral Ridge Drive). We are inland, however, keep in mind that before all of this "urban sprawl", most of Florida was swamp land. If Frances stalls (or slows) we will be pretty flooded. I've been in FL all of my life and seen/weathered many hurricanes including Andrew...Frances scares me. It's a H-U-G-E storm! I just got back from the grocery store and it's a mad-house. Also, gas stations are running out of fuel very quickly as well!

Anyway, be safe everyone!!

I do not work for this company, but I was at Generac today. They had a note posted where everyone could see it.
The note was from some one in Florida thanking them for such a wonderful product. When the power went out, Hurrican Charley, the generator kicked on automaticly(sp) and when power was restored shut itself off. the family was able to run all appliances including their central air.
Food for thought. Too bad I can't get a discount, I'd send you one.
Good luck.

My boss left this morning to go pickup her grandparents in West Palm Beach and her friend's parents in Ft. Lauderdale because they are refusing to leave. Old people can be so stubborn. The most I should see of this is a butload of rain on Sunday and Monday. You guys down south of me stay safe hurry and ship your tv's to me before UPS cuts service because of Frances. Haha.

Well, we "bagged and tagged" all of our stuff at the office, made a last bank deposit (we are a mortgage and real estate company), and secured the building the best we could. Our office is just west of downtown Ft. Lauderdale, and I live on the county line between Broward and Palm Beach. :( This is going to SUCK!!

We left this on the front door for our customers...

I heard that the hurricane is the size of Texas. Looks like it's path is right under us. We will still get some serious wind, I mean we have a little wind here now - very humid wind, kinda weird.

Be carefull everyone - I heard that Orlando traffic is a mess. I think that our Orlando store might be closed, haven't heard word yet.

Anybody out there still hanging out on the net w/this hurricane? http://www.smileytown.com/content/emot/thnk0001.gif We are getting 14mph winds here - which is not that bad, no rain yet.

Actually Orlando's traffic is great - there is none. Kind of weird to see the traffic cameras showing no traffic on I-4 in downtown Orlando. Looks like she is loosing intensity, not size, and she is moving slower 2 to 3 MPH. I finished boarding up the house at about 2:30 this afternoon. I will probably stay online as long as I have power. I sent the wife and kids to Georgia, so I am at home alone with just the cat, dog, and the fish - actually this is kind of nice, some peace and quiet for a change - haha.

^^ I was the last one to post Friday then I posted last line today. Traffic was bad Friday. oopps on my part.

I guess we will be inside this weekend...which sucks! This thing is moving so slow.

10 pm and we still have power. They issued a tornado warning til 8 am. Sustained winds are 30 mph with gusts at 50+. We are supposed to be in the 80 mph sustained winds at 2 am til about 5 am. So far I have commercial power, when I loose that I will wait until the storm passes then I will fire up the generator :D

GTblue1
09-05-2004, 12:14 PM
In the Clearwater/St.Pete area the wind is pretty constant since the middle of the night. A few branches blown down here and there. Boarded up the house and now its time to wait. Good luck to all in the path.

rckozma
09-05-2004, 01:18 PM
We lost power at 3 am, started up the generator at about 10 am. Looks like Frances is still a few hours away and still coming. She has been on land for over 12 hours now and has only lost 15 mph. She hit land at 105 mph and is sitting at 90 mph now. We are supposed to see 75+ mph. Stay safe everyone!

*edit* The eye is here. They have announced a 6 pm to 6 am curfew. And they have already said that if your house is boarded up to leave it boarded because there is Ivan out there coming the same direction and he is already bigger than any other storm that far out.

It didn't get that bad here in Tallahassee. Highest winds were about 30mph with gusts up to about 40. Only got about 2 inches of rain at the airport...roughly 3 inches here at my house. We lost power about a dozen times over the whole weekend. Only once did it stay off for more than a minute. Stayed off for 6 hours one night. Phoneslines were down for 24 hours though, give or take.

I cleaned up most of the yard debris today. The sun poked its head out but the breeze was still goin at about 20mph. No damage to speak of.....so glad nothing landed on my car.

As far as Ivan is concerned......F@CK YOU, A$$HOLE!!!!! GO AWAY!!!!! :bang: :angryfire: :plzdie:

Ok, I feel better now.

ok guys im back and still alive . . me and the wifey fled to the keys where the weather was supposed to be great . . it WAS untill the bands started hitting us. nothing major, just some gust of about 50-60 mph with a sustained wind of about 2-25 mph which made any watersport a no which made the keys boring as hell. we had two days of rain(we got there saturday morning and left last night[tuesday]) and then nice hot beat down on your face sweat dripping down your back hot as balls weather the other two days. the water was still very choppy though yesterday when we went out on the boat and went fishing for some trout and snapper. . . .we had about 6-8 foot swells but it was fun anyway . except for that whole part where we were on one side of the boat one second and then on the other side the very next second. . .lol got a some great cigars, and my wife bought me a humidor for our 4 yr anniversary. its very VERY nicee . . holds up to 90 cigars! . . i think its almost ready to be stocked . . . any guys/gals here afficionados? which ones do you like? i think i like the cusano 18's, i dont think however i like the cao brazilia's . . . anyway . . .everything's good, it was fun to see the wind blowin the way it did when i left work and went home and i got a chance to "enjoy" it like i didnt get a chance to do during andrew. i slept through andrew, and vowed to be out during frances to body surf the wind lol. sure enough i did and got wacked by a huge palm fronze(sp?)-its a palm tree limb. uhm, no damage to the house that i can tell, the roof leak got some action but thats about it.
father in law lives in palm beach gardens with dying bed ridden mother and that was no fun i can only imagine but they are safe, back at work now sleepy as hell since the motion sickness medicine i took yesterday has apparently met up with the alchohol in my blood stream from bar hopping this past weekend and then throw in the tiredness from the sunburn i got . . . lets just say im ready to go home. and YES i said sunburn hehe ok i think im done bye

I am back!!! I guess nobody noticed. Anyways, we are still out of power at the house. Luckly I came into work today b/c we stayed at a hotel yesterday.

Our power went out Sunday morning - I hope we get power back today. My mom is 2 streets down and had power come up yesterday. So I am hoping we get it back on today. If not I guess we will be staying over mom's house.

This weekend sucked A$$!! I lost all of my food in the fridge/freezer. I had just went shopping last week. :(

I heard that 1/2 million of progress energy people were down w/out electricity in the state of FL. We still have 37,000 out here in Marion County.
