If this is what I think it is, than it is older than dirt itself.

Does it really surprise you? This crap happens every day in a lot of shops. It's a matter of finding a mechanic you can trust or knowing how to spot weather or not the work has really been done.

Well I've never been to a mechanic my whole life, lol, except for warranty work.

It sounds like that story a year or two back. Jiffy Lube charging for services they didn't do - the ATF flush without the flushing machine, the fuel filter that wasn't changed at all, etc. I didn't watch all of it though.

yeah, I've heard about it... one of my friends works for firestone, and he says there are certain techs who pull that kind of ****.

I used to go to jiffy lube to change my oil when I was low on time. I'd bring my own oil and filter, and stand there in the bay watching them while they did it.

any other work I'm paying for (alignments), I take to my friend at firestone and make sure he's the tech working on it...and I tip him pretty well too. he's an honest guy, real sharp too...so I trust him.

Shops in general will screw you every time. They over charge for parts. Here's an example, a shop in my town charged $187 for a fan clutch for a 96 bronco. I raised hell about it because you can buy the EXACT same part from napa (same part number and everything) for $77. Their excuse was "everybody else does it".

So, if you're not mechanically inclined enough to fix your car yourself, either learn how, hunt around for a decent mechanic (only go by word of mouth) and ALWAYS buy the parts yourself and take them to the mechanic. Save yourself some big $$.

i used to be a strong contender for being against jiffy lube...

but i think its all up to the individual shop to see what practices they partake in..

but truth be told.. its easy as hell to DIY

this is one of the reasons i starting doing my own work...so i could help out family and myself...i was lucky i found a good machanic and hell half the time let me help and would charge me for just the parts....

and why i'm now a hyundai tech....because the people who's cares i service get done the right way all the time...no exceptions.

for example...i just replaced a 6spd tranny in an 04 tib ( a member on NT) i also did a stage one clutchmasters clutch and fidenza flywheel....(btw...i really need to do my own clutch and get a fidenza!!!) but i took my time and did it right...did i meet time or even go under...nope quite the opposite...but i know wthat i was done correctly and the guy was very pleased....

i feel extremely bad for those that dont know and just trust their independent shop....
