I know this site is focused on the XD/XD2, but why not let other Hyundai's run? I know some of the other members on this board have Tiburon's, Sonota's, etc. Just a thought.

Why stop at other Hyundai's? I could run my V-rod or Suburban, oh wait, this is ELANTRAXD. Other year Elantra's are fine in my book, but I think we should just keep it to them. I don't know because I don't really frequent the other sites, but do they let Elantras run in newtib?

i know on RDtib this year the jan winner was turboTIM's j2 elantra. i dont see how it hurts anything, the winner is still going to be the cleanest/meanest car for the month. i cant wait to get my 08 calander from RDT so i can enjoy tims elantra all month long;)

If it's opened up to other models, I'll NEVAR have a chance to win COTM. The chances are already prohibitively slim! Don't take away my last glimmer of hope.

And yeah, that's what CrookedH is for!

I'm not missing any of that except the blinging wheels. Chrome wheels on anything, but muscle...yelck. I think my car is done in a very tasteful way. Personally, I see no point in doing a lot of performance unless I was trying to make something like turboTIM's j2 elantra.

I agree. This is an XD site. If you have something else, go to another site. I have a Tib but I like XD's. I'm not complaining about not being able to get COTM. I could go to CH.com or NT.com for that.

My point was: This site does not appreciate tasteful, subtle cars. Case in point.

+1. Another reason I will never enter COTM on NT.com. The majority of these automotive forums (not just XD or Hyundai) don't appreciate a clean modified car. It has to be gaudy and blinged out (http://www.elantraxd.com/cotm/oct07.php). Not always (look at this Septembers COTM (http://www.elantraxd.com/cotm/sept07.php)) but usually.

And what about the car on the header of the site right now? It doesn't have any bling as far as I know.

I think besides this months COTM, that the last really "blingy" car was August 2006. So most of the others since then have larger than stock or chrome wheels, it's not like they have 22's or something.

To be honest, I think Bob is more upset than anyone.

I know I'm a n00b around these parts but here's how I see it..

I'm a minimalist, I like simple clean lines and as others have mentioned, cars that are done tastefully. However at the same time I can also appreciate the amount of time and effort someone has put in to a car. Especially when that person has done all the work themselves. Building tuners/hotrods is something you do because you love it, not because you're going to make a few bucks on the resale. So there are times the the amount of effort spent on the vehicle cannot be ignored even when there's aspects of the vehicle you don't like.

Just how I see it..

No I could really care less Bob,

Sorry to hijack this thread but this is a pet peeve of mine.
The correct term is "I couldn't care less". If you "could care less" than you do care a little. If you don't care at all, then you couldn't care any less.

We now return you to the previous discussion, already in progress.

singling out "blingy" cars will just alienate elantra owners

it's not like we have very many... come on, who cares?

they're into their elantra. that's all that matters. whether or not you think a CAI is a better mod than a totally custom sound system or chrome everything has nothing to do with what everyone else thinks.

personally, while I agree the "blingy" cars really aren't my thing, those people put just as much work (if not more) into their elantras as I do, and if they win COTM they deserve it.

however, letting tiburons and other hyundais (besides elantras) into the COTM makes no sense. this site is elantraXD, not elantraXDandotherhyundaistoo. having non-XD/XD2 is pushing it enough. whenever the new elantra sports hatch comes out, that'll probably be the end of the line unless hyundai continues the elantra name.

For me its about balance but slightly weighted on the performance end.

In case of last months with Silver and ElantraXD, both had about the same balance with heavy emphasis on exterior vs performance. So i literally flipped a coin for my vote.

As for eligbility, this IS ElantraXD, so logically only Elantras should be allowed.

Let me get into this:............

1. The COTM is a popularity contest. I have run several times when I had my XD and other people have won because the mods were more on the extreme side of things; engine/bodyaudio/visual mods. As with nearly every COTM on most forums, those who nominate their cars have done a lot to the car and mods that are on the high end of the wow factor.

2. With the introduction of the HD, the XD only factor severely limits whoever can nominate their car. I could run with the XD, but am prohibited from doing so on the HD. Both cars are Elantras, but one only qualifies. Is the HD something that nobody wants to see modified? If the COTM is going to be an Elantra, why not allow any Elantra to run regardless of year or platform? This would open up an even opportunity to have all elantras qualify and be seen.

I have noticed a huge change in behavior of members since I got the HD. When I had the XD, everybody seemed hunky dory with what I said. Since I got the HD (which this site apparently allows HD owners to exist) things somehow changed.

Ferret
10-03-2007, 04:49 PM
Well, considering Hyundai no longer makes the XD and the HD is the successor then it's pretty obvious that the HD should get every bit the consideration that the XD's do...

I don't like the standard aviators. They tend to be NSFW for my work websence filters, plus the computers are monitored and when I sign in on a work workstation, whatever is in my profile can show up on the server. I do pull up the site at work when I have the time and do use EXD on some lessons. The posts must be very clean and meet specific criteria.

I still think any Elantra should be open to COTM.

A non-XD elantra won in January '06. I think part of the reason XD Elantras were only allowed in the beginning (we're talking 2002, 2003 when the site was started) was that there were TONS of pre-01s compared to XDs at the time. This site being created for the all-new XD Elantra, made is so the COTM was about what BlueGT originally built this site for. I would say any elantra XD and newer should be eligible (I know that's biased towards pre-01 owners, sorry, but it's my $.02). Heck, has anybody been to www.elantrahd.com lately?

However, the XD platform , although the majority at this time should not be the only platform qualification for COTM. Things can, and should evolve from the original intent BlueGT had in mind. There are more Elantras being modded than the XD, although it was the XD that likely started the modding revolution to the Elantra that is commonly seen. Having that spread should be considered a good thing.

This is not about the site itself, but just the qualifications for COTM.

Doohickie

Oh quit yer whinin' Colin. If you don't like it, start your own site.

The fact of the matter is this: the way you are handling yourself on this thread is the reason why, even if your car was eligible, you wouldn't win COTM. If you have an honest disagreement with someone, you just can't let it go!

It's also the reason you left EClub. You had a run in or two with folks there, next thing you ask Mitch to delete your account. And EClub is one of the mellowest, friendliest car sites I know.

Learn to go with the flow, dude. You're a good guy; I've seen that. You're smart and you do your best to learn all about your mods before you do them (unlike a lot of people who plunge in and then have to come crawling to the boards for help). You can be a resource on any forum you post to, but you have to respect the fact that people are not always going to agree with you. It doesn't mean they hate you, it just means they don't agree.... and that's where it ends, if you let it. If you flame out at others and demand your account be purged and all that, you won't last anywhere longterm.

You have a lot to contribute; you just need to learn to be mellllllooooooowwww. And maybe if you were a little mellower, Super would open up the voting to accommodate HDs as well.

Even if he never does, the HD platform is the present and the future; you'll get your chance. Hang in there Colin.

1. Only 2001-2008 Elantras are eligible to be a Car of the Month since this website is focused on those particular models (earlier generation Elantras may be given special permission, PM SuperGLS for information). The owner of the car must nominate their car.
