nah, this is a better deal. Faster processor, more ram, bigger hard drive. And the only brand name PC I'd buy.

He's asking way too much for an older laptop that he's selling used with no warranty.

Watch out for Dell. Their tech support and warranties are becoming legendarily horrible.

Be wary of some of the vendors on pricewatch though. Make sure you use get one with good reviews. Personally I wouldn't buy something as pricy as a laptop from anyone but Outpost or Newegg if not locally.

yeah i work for a IT company and around here dell is a 4 letter word(mostly cuz we dont sell them)...but ive heard their customer service sucks also. I dont want anything very big, i was looking around 14" and its just gonna be used for internet browsing and music storage...im mostly wanting a fast processor and wireless built in....i didnt realize how cheap laptops have gotten tho!

heres a couple more ive also found... Are AMD processors good, ive only really used intel...? im looking at the two in the middle a gateway and an acer.

Hence the dell offering. Besides, these days Macs are just PC's with a different operating system. No more motorola, powerpc or TI chips in those things, they're running intels.

I'll sell you one of these for 500 bucks. MSRP is 1,800+, laptop is about 3 months old.

I have one more of the same exact kind.

Ok, I've got 4 dells at home, no problems with them. I support over 2000 computer systems mostly IBM's/Lenovo and about 300 dells. Out of all the machines I've worked with (dell, IBM, compaq, toshiba, acer, gateway, hp) the dells have been the least troublesome and have the best customer service. Maybe 'cuz I have the "premier" company support package but I rarely have any trouble getting stuff fixed in a timely manner with dell. Sony is the absolute worst for customer support. HP, compaq and IBM are ok as long as you get somebody who speaks fluent english when you call in. But as somebody else said, that IBM unit is over priced.

I had an acer aspire and got rid of it. Short battery life and the screen is really really easy to break. Pick it up once by the lid instead of the base and cruncharoo, you need a new LCD at $175 and you gots to install it yourself.

If you're going to buy locally, get one from costco. That way if you hate it, you can take it back with no problems. I think they still have the 6 month return on the laptops. So you can play with it for a few weeks and decide if you like it. I'd also suggest checking out epinions.com for reviews on anything you look at.

I support nothing but Dells, and I've had very minor problems with them, and Dell tech support is outstanding. Whoever you talked to is probably just a cock to people on the phone.

I also have 3 Dell pc's at home, with ZERO problems.

I am using that exact machine right now. Good machine, but be aware some have had motherboard issues. So make sure it's still covered by dell warranty before buying.

What motherboard issues? I've never heard of anything like that...and I support a network of around 800 or so of them.

Maybe it's just your machine?

We've had 3 units where the motherboard pooped out. You'd try to boot the system up and only the power light and the bluetooth light would come on and flash at specific intervals. Wasn't a big deal, called dell, they came out and replaced the board the next day. Could have been a bad lot. I work for a big company that buys these things by the pallet. My prior machine, dell latitude 610 was rock solid for 4 years. I beat the crap out of it and it still ran like a charm when I returned it at the end of the lease.

Yeah, we have nothing but D610's and D620's...but I never had any motherboard issues. Just HD issues (which is easily replaced) and a few RAM sticks have failed.

The one I'm selling doesn't have a warranty, unfortunately, I bought it with small issues and replaced everything myself. I will, however, refund it with no questions asked if it something doesn't work upon arrival.

I say Mac not cause of the now intel'd boxes, but because their CS kicks ***!
Had my old G4 iBook on 3 year warranty. After it's MB failed for a 6th time in 1 1/2 years, I asked and they gave me a new laptop. And they dont give refurbed ones. Its a brand new (at least brand new when i got it ) core 2 duo Macbook.
