There is a small difference in throttle response, not a huge one. I cut away about half the metal on the rim of the opening, and smoothed out the entire inside so there are no more harsh corners. I will post pics tomorrow when I do my manifold.

Cool. Yes, that's about what I found too -- a bit of throttle response and possibly a bit more power but not enough to be certain. I'll enjoy seeing the pics.

It seems that the "...useless..." comment when used too frequently reflects more on the poster of that reply than on the thread in which it is posted; especially when the orignial post includes a comment like this:

...I will post pics tomorrow when I do my manifold.

ok here are a few, I didnt get pics of the manifold due to dead batteries. All I did was round off the corners to each port and polish the chamber walls. I also messed with the cam sprocket and came up with some weird results. NOTE do not over tighten timing belt or your car will sound like a sewing machine...as for where my cams are set, im not sure anymore. So im gonna leave them alone so my car doesnt weird out on me.

If you haven't reassembled the intake yet, you might want to grind down the ridge on the inlet side of the throttle body about 1/2" in front of the brass disk even more. That ridge causes turbulence and loss of laminar airflow.

Good work, though. Let us know if you feel any major difference in power with or without the camshaft timing mod.

there as I stated a better throttle response, but thats about it and it looks good.

I started to but it the manifold was eating my dremmel bits, so I just polished the runners and rounded edges

omg... you were using a DREMMEL ?

you need a real grinding tool dude... if you cant afford the air tools, the next best thing is the ROTOZIP ! its made by BOSCH and sold at home depot and most hardware stores.. :)

cost is about $50 for a bare bones kit.

I intend to buy a roto tomorrow they are on sale and then I will try it again tomorrow.

ford, do you think it would be worth the expense to extrude hone the intake? Has anyone actually priced it?

if you extrude hone, there is no need to use a rotozip or any other type of porting tool...

i suppose that it will yield some gains above stock... but nobody has done it so there is no definite proof.

I believe it's about $500 for a manifold. You can check prices at http://www.extrudehone.com/. The price list is here: http://www.extrudehone.com/price_list2.pdf

I've heard good things from one of my frieds that tweaks mustang V6es, but haven't heard anything about small displacement engines and extrude-honing the intake.

I am in the firm opinion after taking apart several motors and really examined the head that most of all NA gains will be found with the exhaust side of the head, not so much the intake side. It all helps though right?

Oh I fully agree with you, I have a spare Beta 2 in my basement and each time I look at the head the exhaust side screams to be worked on.
