I HATE the seats in my E. They're uncomfortable, and ripped/cig. burned from the PO. Actually they look like someone took the seats out of a base Accent and stuck them in my car. The junkyard by me has an 04 Elantra with decent seats right now, but don't seem to be able to get seats from the older style Elantra (or a Tiburon for that matter) that aren't in worse shape than the ones I have now. I put a "race seat" in a different car and it was such a PITA trying to adapt seat rails to the seat/floorpan that I vowed I'd never change a seat other than bolt-in stuff. Thank you

i dunno if they fit or not but if they do, look for a tib, tib seats are so much nicer

I doubt it'll go in perfectly, there is bound to be some differences.

With that said, I have a set of beige 2002 Elantra seats if you are interested.

Do all XD seats have air-bags in them, or just the newest ones? ANd could you show a pic of what the beige seats look like? I should go measure the rails, etc in mine to see how hard 02 seats would be to graft in.

measuring tape

and even if they don't fit perfectly... you can make them fit

better than making crappy racing seats fit

you may also want to check out other hyundais to see if their seats are a perfect fit

All 01-06 XDs have airbags in the seats if they are from the US.

I'll see about getting some pics.

Hey thanks SuperGLS, that would help lots. The local yard by me rarely has import stuff and when they do it's totally destroyed stuff with millions of miles. THey do have a set of grey leather Tiburon seats but they quoted me $500....EACH for them. "F" that. I tried putting a racing seat into the Miata I used to have and it would have been easier to grow better seats from seeds or something. I sat in a newer (04 or 05) Elantra at the dealer and the seats in that seemed light-years better than what I got.

OK I went and measured a couple things. I'm at work so I can't post the pix I snapped, and I'm sure my measurements aren't precise but here goes:
The seats are about 22" wide at the bottom (wide part of the cushion, don't want the new ones to hit the door or the console) THe seat itself is about
38" tall (a buddy swapped junkyard seats into his hot-rod and they actually touched the headliner...) The seat rails are about 17" apart, and right around 17" long. The sides by the console, bolt in like an "L" shape, not at the back of the rail. The seat-belt thing is attatched to the seat, not the floor. (It SUCKS to try and adapt floor-mounted seatbelts to a seat that doesn't have anchors built in. It's good none of you can see my welding skills...) Anyway if anyone has XD style measurements lemme know.

I just checked my shop manual to see if they had these types of measurements in there, but of course Hyundai isn't that good.

My extra set of seats is at my old job. I might be able to get over there sometime this week between work and class. I'll see what I can do.

The offending seats (and no they aren't comfortable on trips)
The last photo you can see the offset mounting, all the other seat rails I've seen had bolts right on the ends of the tracks, I've never seen ones with "L" shaped ends like this.
And excuse how dirty the interior is, every time I let my wife drive it things get spilled, and junk gets left all over. We just had a daughter 3 weeks ago and I don't really have time to detail like I used to.

yea, my mom has those seats in her 2000 elantra, and they're pretty aweful. Really stiff, no support, and the material is dirt cheap. But from what ive seen of the later GLS XD seats, they arent much better for comfort.

I got a hold of some tib seats and did a transplant. The best thing I ever did!
