VA, DC, MD meet Pt 2 - November 10th.

Rain or shine i'm going out and driving my car...
Who wants to join me?

Here's the "TENTATIVE" intinerary. I am very open to suggestions and better ideas.

SUNSHINE PLAN:

I'll be detailing the car at my house around 8-9 AM.. anyone is welcome to join me and shoot the breeze....

Around 12 PM I'll be at Haynes Point in Washington DC (about 20 minutes from my house, its a public park on a peninsula between the Potomac and Anacostia Rivers, lots of parking and picnic tables) I'll bring cooler full of soda's and some KFC depending on who is down, then that'll determine how much food i'll bring... PHOTO SHOOT and VIDEO SHOOT - check out the links at the bottom of the post for pic and maps (gladly accepting donations for food and drinks, but not necessary)

(PLAN B - go to alternative park and BBQ !!! after - Dave and Busters in Rockville.. food.. games.. bowling...)

3 PM - Roadtrip
driving along the George Washington Parkway and exit onto 495 back south. Meet at my house in Fairfax

4 PM ish - Mod time... anyone who needs help installing bolt ons, or what not.. i'll have my floor jack and stands, and a torch and breaker bar ready...

Sunset, get some nice pics at the park across from my APT complex.. hit some golf balls if you want..

8 PM ish or what ever time we are done... get the F* outta dodge.. i'm planning on driving to NC that night... if everything goes okay.


RAINY DAY PLAN: Meet at Tyson's Corner Mall parking lot by the movie theater at an empty part of the lot. Shoot the breeze, take pics, move our cars go inside and eat, and maybe see a movie... and be mad it wasn't sunny.

yeah thats it... the park is actually the entire peninsula... we can't do much more than eat and take pictures there... too many bike riders.. but the scenery is lovely... weather permitting..

close enough to the cars? the park has a road that drives alll around the peninsula... along the road are several parking lots that park parralel, and also the conventional kind.. if we are luck, the tour bus lots will be free...

but either case, the only people to worry about occupying tables are fishermen and the occasional picnickers.

That would be awsome!! Sounds like alot of fun! There is a small park accross the street from my house with a parking lot and grilles and a small roof type thing for if it rains, but i understand thats a little too far for most people. That does sound like a really good idea to grille our own food!!

We headed to Tyson Corner (it was closer than D &B & it was getting late) but the traffic was wicked :eek: , we did good to stick together thru all the Stop signs. Also the roads there are tricky if you are not from the area, especially with all the extra traffic,

Thank Gawd for my GPS, I could not get up on the main road out of Best Buy (there is a main 3 or 4 lane road that I was suppose to be on). You have to cross a 2 way road, then cross traffic in the opposite way that you need to go to get to the road...

I did find an easier & closer way home with the GPS, going up 29 to 70 to the Baltimore Beltway, rather than 495 & 95...

Swapped timing belt, water pump, thermostat, rear sway bar, rims, tires and fixed the cam timing adjustment! Damn, I hope Tom keeps coming to these meets LOL!! Who's My xd sucks *** in the snow i almost died last year at less than 1 mph stopping at the bottom of a hill (slid through an intersection and had to e-brake the car sideways to miss a plow/salt truck who never stopped at the stop sign!) I guess if the guy had stopped i wouldn't have had to take evasive action but still I don't put alot of confidence in the car in bad weather. Now empty parking lots are lots O' fun in the xd!

that is true, but what i am saying, is i was expecting NO traction, and NO reaction to steering as some people where making it seem, i took some sharp turns and drove it pretty rough, to get a feel for how it would react out on the highway. i know that there are MANY more factors that are put into play when going out onto major roads and all..

I just spent 2 hours driving around in the snow just to get back into the feel of it. The roads are pretty slick and i wasn't sure about the 195/50/15's on the car right now and it wasn't that bad at all. The tires are all seasons but I usually put the winter treads on since i have a set of em but i may not need them. I also did a good bit of parking lot driving to see how the car performed in a skid and to practice my steering and counter steering. It was fun to practice but never compares to real life situations

NJ was bad for black ice (My Reason for studed tires). The XD handles alot better than most cars out there. I slid once cause a trash truck checked up in front of me (Note: Air brakes =much better in snow than standard disc brakes). I was able to get up hills (Before the Snow Tires ) by taking a little pressure out of the tires. The key to all Winter Weather driving is .....Common Sense!
Go only as fast as you feel safe going (For those with this great trait)
and Slow the **** down and live another day!! (For those who dont)
Don't let other assholes out there push you to go faster.

P.S. Drivers safety training in canada was great for the skid pad. Try pulling a full on oilfield logging truck out of a skid at 60 MPH to avoid pop up pedestriens and animals. Again Great Fun ,But in reality, there would be no Anything going 60 MPH in heavy Snow. It's all Aboot the common sense , eh?

i need to figure out what the CEL is for.. i cleared the one for the thermostat when Tom came down...

i was getting only like 3 "ok's...

after he cleared the codes and rescanned it.. i had 5 out of 7...

dammit.. i need to pass emissions...

yeah, my belt is starting to squeak on me again and ive had it for only a year! im really starting to get pissed and think i need a new one for this car. i just hope it will hold for the drive home next week
