My girlfriend lives in Canyon Country. She and her parents and dogs evacuated last night and stayed at a friend of her dad's house. They returned this morning and have been ok for now. The Canyon Country fire seems to have moved out of her area...last night it was a few hills away when I was leaving to come back down to Claremont. All she luckily lost was two of the walls in her backyard to the 80 mph winds.
One of the companies that the company I work for owns was not open today in SD because either people we under evac. orders or they couldn't get to work with the 15 shut down. It's about a mile from MCAS Miramar.
My prayers go out to those that have lost and those that are displaced like my g/f was last night. My prayers and thanks go out to ALL of the firefighters too!

Here are some pics from when my g/f and I were returning to Canyon Country from Northridge where we were shopping at REI.
She took them with her cellphone. When we left the fire was still in Agua Dulce and you couldn't see anything because it was still so small. Upon returning a little over an hour later, it spread into Canyon Country which is about 15 miles from the fire's origination.
The first pic is out the side window of my car looking at the blaze. The second picture was us facing toward her house waiting at the light on Via Princessa and Sierra Hwy.

newest update:
house, cars, cats, and family are all safe and back home!
we really dodged a bullet on this one. i'll post pics of the devestation in the coming week.
theres a mountain back behind my house, and it used to be relatively green. not its black. its amazing, but in a negative way.
and RedScorp:
i havent been following the progress up north of SD county. how's everything up there? all the local (and even some national news) programs are focusing on the Witch Creek Fire and Harris Fire here near home. i hope you're safe and doing well!!
good news from the fire: (other than that my family and home are safe) NO JURY DUTY ON TUESDAY!

Everything is good. We have a lot of smoke coming down from the Lake Arrowhead fire but it's getting better each day. My g/f's area in Canyon Country is smokey but fine.
Glad to hear you got home safely and everything is intact.

man, that's crazy. Looks like the fires I went through in Australia in 02, except you can see a little more sky than I could at the time. We spent some time defending my grandparents house, because they were out of town at the time. It's crazy none the less, I can sympathize and my prayers go out to everyone going through this right now!

Welcome to Hell!
Wouldn't hell involve the fires continuing to burn? Better than purgatory which closed for lack of funds though.

yeah and i was complaining about my filters getting clogged up with ash.. and my home wasn't even affected by this.. i'm very thankful. but it is starting to clear up down here, and i'm glad to hear that moonlite got everything back safely. i guess it's just another lesson to us that everything could just disappear just like that when least expected.

we had it pretty bad 4 years back. i know anyone here from SD (or even LA?) that was here in 03 knows the cedar fires. even though that fire wasn't knockin on my back door like this harris fire, the wind was blowing all the smoke and ash southward, and we got a good dusting of ash on my moms car, and the skiy was ALWAYS this dark red/orange color, and the smell lingered for days after it was out. this fire is worse in terms of people affected and houses destroyed, but that cedar fire was visually more intense, in my opinion

thanks for reminding me, gotta check the filters on my car and my parents cars. i did do some driving on tuesday/wednesday when it was worst for me.
