So I've been trying to install this clutch from sunup til sundown for 3 days now, everytime i start to get rolling there's a problem  I.E. Impact wont fit.. Bolts snapping off, Not enough clearance to get bellhousing far enough out of the way...Running to the store every hour to get new bolts, snap-rings, tools... . Pain in the ***!! Main problem is I'm doing it myself (An extra set of hands would have been GREAT!) I just got the flywheel off (Took alot of time there , couldn't keep it from turning while I put pressure on the bolts to break em loose). This is the worst case of a damaged clutch I've ever seen..WOW!! Pic's coming up soon.

Well, you can say you used up all the friction material off that clutch :) Did those rivets leave any gouges?

It,s on the front of the tranny. Here's a pic, its the red bolt. Kind of a pain to fill though.

Um, wow. That's a wee bit worn.

x3 on the flexible hose. At AutoZone, they have them labeled as "transmission fill hoses".

Was there no way to drop the transmission completely out of the car?

its tough enough to get space to move it back with the subframe slightly dropped. getting it out completely blows

Just think of the pile of money you are saving. New clutch makes car much nicer to drive after. Site DIY is good for throw out bearing install details.

Thank God...IT'S DONE!! Thanks for the help guys. Runs great now (Short test drive.... I'll keep you updated as the miles go by).
Yeah, Guess I ran that old clutch to the grave...lol

ive seen that before, in fact, i pulled a trans out at work once and the clutch disc was fine, but the pressure plate was completly broke in like four places!

If you aren't replacing the flywheel, you should get it resurfaced.

You mean I have to tear it apart again!!!??? I don't think I like you now! :kick:

JK... I put in a Lightweight Flywheel. All is new, all is good.. Just have to replace my battery now.. For some reason it wont hold a charge anymore  (Maybe having hazards on til it died. )

yeah if it was warped at all...it will chatter and you new clutch will wear prematurely.

Took another tesd drive (on the way to replace my battery)...
21 miles : Great grip on take off, but I get some jutter on downshift. Any Idea if this will go away during break in??

take it easy on the clutch for the first 500miles :)

if you have apucked clutch that is normal and as for the battery, are you positive you reattached all the grounds when you put it back together?

the chatter will only last a few days, maybe a week.

Affirmative Sir. And just a Stage 2, looks like OE but better material (No Pucks)
I labeled all wires when I took it apart so I could see the bright orange to put em back. The DIY clutch replacement by Wytchdr was a Great help (although I would add a few steps.. Like support the engine at the tranny housing and Mark the strut tower before you disconnect the wheel so the alignment is ok.. I have to align it now...lol)

And I'm taking it VERY easy for the first 500-600 miles. I usually downshift to help slow, thats when I get the jutter, on high RMP going into downshift. I hope you're right and it only lasts for a week or so.
Should I just not Downshift for awhile??

I now try not to down shift for brake assist. Stopped doing it because brake pads are cheaper than clutches...

I thought you meant when you were accelerating.

I wouldn't downshift to slow down at all. And you should always rev match now with regular downshifting.

I just did my clutch
easy way to avoid alignment is to remove the entire tower assembly

anyone else get an extremely light clutch pedal after installing a fidanza flywheel?

KeWLKaT

the lightness of the pedal has NOTHING to do with the flywheel. i am starting to doubt you even did it yourself...

saturn

well I didn't think it did (since it doesn't move that way), what is it though? the slave cylinder? could I have misaligned something?

my pedal used to be horribly stiff and I just thought that it was how hyundai was. I didn't open the clutch system so I didn't lose any fluid. the only thing I did differently was I used different gear oil and a fidanza flywheel. everything else is stock (except the spring evan took out of my slave cylinder a long time ago)

the pressure plate and clutch are the stock valeo kit, which is exactly what I had on the car.

it drives normal and grips great (I stalled it on my first drive due to the lighter flywheel)... the only thing that changed is the pedal feels extremely light and has no resistance. do you need to bleed the clutch system due to it being disconnected from the pedal?

cypher...if you pop the bottom ball joint there is no need to worry about the alingment.

I checked with a hyundai tech and he said that the difference in the distance between the new flywheel and the pressure plate (even though it's OE) may have had an impact on the feel of the pedal... and to adjust it with the rod at the clutch master cylinder (wtf?)

yeah underneath the pedal of the clutch there is a 14mm nutand a 12 mm...you can adjust the height of the pedal...i wouldnt not worry about it...unless its really annoying you....there is not much adjustment anyway.

saturn
11-12-2007, 05:41 PM
oh ... yeah I was confused because that's not even what I was trying to figure out

my pedal has almost no resistance when before it was like it had a high gauge spring behind it. it feels like a honda clutch. could it just be from the new pressure plate? the car seems to have had the original pressure plate from 2003 in it. I'm not very experienced with clutches but the difference, when I didn't change anything else, tells me it's due to the new parts.

So if I am trying to get it to engage a higher point in the pedal, do I go for the 14 or the 12? Clockwise, or counter? I ended up having a mechanic at my dealer throw the new clutch in for me, and I can't stand how soggy and low it is. If anybody can help me out, I'd be grateful. I would rather do this now, so that I don't have to drive a half hour to work with the low clutch in the morning......

EDIT- I used the search button, BTW, that's how I found the little bit of info I got..... Trying to avoid a a flame here, hahaha
