ok so i got my hands on a Mitsubishi Eclipse GST turbo setup, the turbo is a TD05H. Is this a Garret Turbo? i got all this taken appart and i put it all together and this is now what it looks like. Iam kind of new to turbo's and stuff, so can you guys help me out with information on how to get this in my 01 Elantra, like how to install and extra parts i will need.

PS. i believe this is a non-intercooled turbo, the person i got it from said its water-cooled

First read the sticky at the top of this forum ...

You'll need everything mentioned in the stick thread, except the turbo; and even that may not work, unless you get the proper manifold ...

This is why you need to read the sticky ... non-intercooled, means the compressed air from the turbo is not being run through an intercooler, which is like an air to air radiator. What you friend meant is that the turbo has fittings that allow water to be used to help cool the center bearing section. There is also oil fittings to lube the bearings. Some center sections only have the oil fittings and rely on the oil itself and some air cooling.

You should also get the book "Maximum Boost", then read it cover to cover ... twice ;)

you're going to need to learn a bit about turbo systems and engines for this to be a successful project. Unfortunately, a turbo that will work is probably the easiest thing to come across for the job. I would strongly suggest that you do some research on turbo systems and engines, so that you understand your undertaking.

and, if you have any questions, you can PM me, and we can trade numbers or whatever.

I hope this XD isnt your daily driver, because doing a custom setup...or hell, even with a turbo kit, downtime will become your car's middle name.

lol its not a garrett turbo its a mitsubishi turbo. what you have looks to be a td05h 14B with a 9 lb wastegate spring. the only problem you gonna have is finding a way to mount that to a manifold easily and route the charge piping. it can be done but there is NO such thing as a bolt on turbo kit for the elantras unless you buy from alpine or one of the other companies over seas.

its debatable whether the alpine kit was "bolt on" that thing was a damned problem factory for me.

I think I got the worst of it on the front end...leaky oil lines, bad unichip, non-fitting downpipe, wastegate bracket wouldnt clear the sensors on the block...and there was probably something I forgot....ah yes, the welds from the exhaust "log" to the runners already had hairline cracks in them....

once I got the problems sorted out, I ditched that kit when I realized how little I got in return for all my hard work =P

it is, i thought my kit i put together myself was going to require just a tiny bit of tweaking but i was wrong. your best bet is to just buy a kit and have a shop deal with it. that turbo is a perfect size for this engine but its just not going to bolt on that easy...

The obx manifolds that everyone uses are hit or miss as to if they just bolt on. My manifold DID NOT bolt on and i had to enlarge 4 bolt holes or cut the edges off the bolt holes just to get it to fit. but once i did the manifold slide on and off really easy.

Then you need a t3 to mitsubishi flange adaptor to bolt onto the manifold which is another couple hours of grinding and screwing with to get the two to bolt together because the t3 flange on the manifold is threaded and so is the flange for the adaptor plate but they are definatly not the same thread so one of them has to have its threads removed and you need STUDS instead of bolts go go into the adaptor flange and then make sure they're the right height because if they're too long they'll hit the runners of the t3 manifold and you need to get nuts and washers over them.

Its just a huge pain in the ***. but then after all that you can get your mitsu turbo to bolt on to the engine. THEN you'll run into the problem of the drain line off the turbo being almost level with the drain on your pan so you'll have to get creative there and fit some fittings and hose that will work so it drains PROPERLY and wont puke oil past the seals into your intake.

Other than that. then youve gotta fab your charge piping and weld on a blow off valve, and mount the intercooler and then figure out some fuel management that works (safc does not work)

dont feel bad, someone gave me a turbo a few years back, and I thought I was going to turbo my car because I had a turbo.

I went as far as buying a manifold before I realized that the project was going to be cost prohibitive.

Don't give up because its hard ... just spread it out over a year or two ... take your time finding the parts you need, and in the mean time, get educated on what turboing a car means.

The more you get into it the more there is. Just do it slow ... you don't need to have it done in a week. And after working on it a year, you should have a good idea what it will do and you'll definitely know what went into it and will be able to make it work ...

What's the difference between a 600whp, and a 200whp Hyundai? None, they both run 13's at the strip.

traction with our cars seems to be the big issue....unless your going to run with slicks 250 is plenty if not too much for normal street driving...

driving toys car...you could easy spin the tires up to 3rd gear....granted he was wearing 195/50....if he had like a 225 on there i'm sure that would have made a big difference.

LOL, damn in doing something wrong then, I cant see to get out of 14s....

Though I think ive been pretty fortunate with my kit, the only issue ive run into is a busted coolant return line from the turbo...I just took that off and ran without water cooling. Other than that its been pretty smooth sailing.

Good luck with whatever you decide to do with that turbo, they make great looking book ends!
