dude you're in ocala? When I go down to visit my friend Rhiannon I'm going to have to meet up with you and check out the car!

good luck with the project. Do you have ARP rod bolts?

BLK02XD
11-11-2007, 07:14 PM
i only got arp head and main studs, the rod bolts are oem, because i had already bought them a while back. lets just hope they hold. yea if your ever down here let me know and you can come by and check it out

bah rod bolts are somewhat cheap (arps) i think they're like 80 bux or less. id say go ahead and replace em. nothing worse than have a rod let loose and smash your cyl head up and DESTROY your motor. its cheap insurance.

Anyway get some more pics up. more specs on the turbo setup too :)

Do you know the torque specs on the ARP headbolts?

BLK02XD
11-11-2007, 09:52 PM
for right now ill be using a gt25 off of a mazdaspeed protege on yamaha's old manifold and downpipe. maybe once i go with a bigger turbo ill pull out the oem bolts and do arp's but for now I wouldn't worry about them.
I dug around on here newtib and rdtib for torque specs and found people using anything from stock torque up to 80 ft lbs. i went with 55 ft lbs on all of them so we'll see how it goes. the only thing im unsure of is if the two bigger ones needed to be torqued more. i guess we'll find out once i get everything in there. i have to get some new fittings for my oil drain tomorrow, come up with some coolant lines, drop the engine in, rewire the smt, and put in my walbro 255, then it will be time to crank it up.

hey right after you get yours up
ha i might get some pics up tomorrow after work once i get the oil drain all setup, we'll see how it goes

you know, i just looked and the rod bolts aren't listed. Someone should send one to arp to get measured and see what we can use.

I thought the head bolts were TTY. Torque I think is around 30 ft/lbs (at least thats what it says in my book).

BLK02XD
11-11-2007, 10:10 PM
yea you start there and then go like 60 degrees or something like that, but the arp studs don't stretch like the stock bolts, so that wouldn't the same, i never really found a definate answer on torquing the head studs on our cars, so we shall see
I thought i had seen arp rod bolts for our cars somewhere, but i can't seem to find them anywhere
weird

I did 65lbs on the last beta I did "shrug"

BLK02XD
11-11-2007, 10:13 PM
yea 65 sounds good, you did all the bolts the same? no leaks?

Cypher
11-11-2007, 10:16 PM
all of them the same, Haven't been told of any kind of leaking yet. Seems to be fine.

BLK02XD

cool i might put another 10 lbs on mine then just to be sure.
thanks

the load on rod bolts is almost entirely RPM related. unless you're running a higher RPM, or your stock bolts have been compromised, the turbo wont have any effect on them.

by the way, the green block is hilarious. is that more of a jon Deere tractor green, or a lime green?

Well the turbo does have an effect. the bigger the turbo, the more boost and more stress you put on the motor the more stress you put on the rod bolts. but yes it more or less is rpm related. seeing as how he's had the block apart i would ahve just thrown them in just for a piece of mine knowing i wouldn't have to replace them ever again or have to worry about anything.

Id have to say its a lime green lol, ive got that same color on my valve cover on my drag DSM. i call it "ricer green"

well here's some pics of it slightly more assembled it will probably be running some time this weekend, i have some other things that need to be finished up before i have the room to pull my car up and work on it, but after about a year of it being down, i think i can handle waiting a few more days

Should the turbo outlet be facing the radiator?

Should the turbo outlet be facing the radiator?

if he wants the wastegate actuator rod to be sitting the way its supposed to he has no choice... or else he would have to make a new bracket.

BLK02XD
11-12-2007, 11:26 PM
ha yeah the feed line is like a mile long, but it will do until i get ahold of a shorter one.

yea thats your old manifold with a gt25 mounted to it

i have to drill and tap new holes for the wastegate bracket on the compressor housing so it will sit like that until i drop the engine in the car and then ill see how my piping lines up and go from there.
this is how my old setup sat, im using the same pipe routing

well it is in and running, i have a few minor things i need to do, so i'll give a real update later. it took so long because i had some issues with the jeep i was working on before i could even get started putting it in, and then once i finally got it in i found out the machine shop pulled the plugs in the oil galley when they cleaned the block without replacing them, and i didnt notice when i assembled the engine, so i had an oil leak like no other. after i got all that straightened out it cranked right up though. like i said i'll give a better update later.

allright i finally got some time to finish up a few things and get some pictures. i'm running 8psi for now until i get a bigger map sensor and bigger injectors. all i have to say is the smt6 is 123412353245432% better than the safc, i no longer have to reset the ecu every day, and put new plugs in every 2 days. It still needs a little bit more tuning but its running pretty good where it's at now. there is a test n tune next saturday in gainesville so i might see if i can get out there and get some runs in.

Lookin' deadly! Nice work!

I'd be wary of how close your oil feed line is coming to your manifold...Even the best of stainless braided teflon "high heat" lines will fail with excess heat from contacting a glowing turbo manifold(I know....:( )

Just a few tips. I would shorten that feed line as much as posible. Also, run your BOV from the brake booster line. You have way to many things tee'd off from one source.

Cypher

I don't know if it can help you, but I have a SS feed line laying around. It was designed for a t3 turbo.

Looks great!

I have seen bad things happen when using silicone bends with turbo systems. BOOM. Since at the turn there is an increase in pressure.

I don't know, I had 2 big 90 deg elbows for my intercooler, 4 ply silicone, never had a problem (except for the cheapo clamps haha).
