ok well while at pep boys today... i bought a 6 inch blue neon light..

and i would like to mount it some where under the dash, more specifically in the leg areas... now... anybody know the best way to route the wiring, and if i buy a second one, to match both sides... can i splice the wires together from both neon tubes... and then hard wire them into a power source, so that they come on when my head lights turn on. and also so that the 12v socket isnt being used up...

so, whats the best way to route the wiring, can i splice 2 neon tubes together n still hav it functional? and... where would i have to hard wire them to, so they turn on when my lights turn on...

thanx

as long as you wire them in series instead of parallel they will work hooked together.

what does that mean????

have both power wires from the neons go to the power source and ground them.

do NOT have it to power source->pos wire of neon ->neon->neg wire of neon->pos wire of neon 2 ->neon->neg wire of neon ->gronud.

sorry i'm a bit drunk.

why don't you look up parallel and series or simple automotive circuits on howstuffowrks or google it or something to get an idea on what you're going to be doing?

please dont burn your car down.

I kept the cigarette lighter plugs on them and wired them to a 4-way power adapter in my glove compartment, which is wired to a switch. Easy to put in and take out.

well the neon has a plug at the end of it, that plugs into the control center circuit board, and then the circuit board has the 12v plug on the end of it.

so wat i was thinkin is... when i buy the 2nd neon tube... ill cut off the plug and splice the correct wires from both neons together, so that both get plugged in using 1 plug into the circuit board and then ill cut the 12v plug n wire it into a bulb or something maybe.

i hope my theory works... and now ill go to howstuffworks.

No, you want them in parallel, and not series.

i have this bad feeling that you are going to light something on fire. just buy a splitter like munky and put it somewhere hidden.
To set it up how you are thinking with the headlights you are looking at going alot deeper than someone that has no clue how to start should honestly go.
been there, done that, learned by paying alot of money to have things repaired.
BUT if you do try it, use inline fuses.

hm... i may consider just buying a double or tripple 12v expander or w/e.... but then id need to figure out how to wire that in... so that i still have the 12v in the dash free.... :/ and id hide all of this in the glove box and route it bak there.

wut i did was cut off the plug on the end, splice the wires, and wired them to the wires that go to the light bulb on the ash tray, that way everytime i turn the headlights on, the neon comes on...just make sure the connections are good, tape them up nicely and tuck all the wires in there and ur good to go...

good call on that rob, i wouldnt have thought that bulb had enough juice going to it.

i used cold cathode lights meant for a computer under my dash on both the driver and passenger footwells.

What i did is wire them into the wire that goes to the marker light on the door. That way, when i open the door, the footwells light up. I dont remember the exact wire i spliced into though i did it over a year ago.

I'm going to do something like that, but with a blue neon in the door pocket.

thats where i put the 6inch neon for now... im gonna eventually buy a 2nd 6inch and a 4inch... ill put the 2 6inch ones above the foot area, and then ill tuck the 4inch in the mission plate spot.
