alrighty here we go. I have an 03 auto elantra. and I will be putting a turbo on it. I need some help, has anyone turboed an auto elantra before? I want to push it as far as I can without screwing my tranny up. So can you help me out.

If you have no knowledge of a turbo system at all. I suggest you get Maximum Boost by Corky Bell.

You need to search.
That said, dont ask VAGUE questions.
Or you won't get any clear answers.

Your still asking vague questions. The automatic transmission can hold gobbs of power, the torque converter is the weak part.

Dude, WHAT DO YOU WANT TO KNOW about auto trannies. What did we say about VAGUE questions? If you don't find me a purpose for this thread within a couple of posts I'll be obliged to stop it right there.
And for some reason I have a hard time believing that you know a lot abotu forced induction....

Your answer is two posts up from yours...
The automatic transmission can hold gobbs of power, the torque converter is the weak part.
Sometimes you people surprise me.

There are no stage three torque converters. Level10 is currently the only company working on our torque converters. The automatic can hold up to 225whp easily with an upgraded transmission cooler. If you don't beat on it and actually learn how to drive the car, it can last.

level 10 told me there was so thats what i was going off of. i just was making sure that i wasnt going to waste 3-4gs on turbo stuff. so with a good torque converter and tranny cooler what hp would i be able to go up 2?

Again, you offer no insight as to what turbo you plan to use, any internal engine modification, etc. You can run 300whp on one, it's all in how you drive it. Obviously you are not doing research either.

call me a noob if you want... but wouldn't a stage 3 be a manual clutch?? *shrugs*
from my knowledge, ALOT of autos are used to be either turbo'd or supercharged... so I think unless you're putting a 'jet' of a turbo on there it should be able to handle the extra boost
gotta ask though - do you have other things all prepped for the extra power... like brakes and tires?

im building my turbo kit from different websites. the turbo im planning on using is most likely a t25 turbo from turbonetics or garret either company is very good. but if the tranny can hold up the power then im probably going with a t3 turbo cuz bigger is better.
brakes....ya i upgraded the front and back brakes and rotors
tires...18inch konig hotswaps with cooper tires

if you are rocking 18'' wheels that weigh in at 50 lbs a corner I wouldnt be surprised if you ended up snapping an axel, lol.

i doubt im going to snap an axel

Lots of power trying to turn very heavy wheels...the axle is most likely going to be the weakest link...and may snap.

If you don't want to listen to his advice, then don't get pissy when it happens and he says "I told you so."

The stock elantra auto holds up very well to power. Bill (from BSE) had one on Andy's prototype and it handled it easily. Only thing I suggest is put a trans cooler on inline with the one in the radiator.

Yeah but I'm saying... bling and real tuning don't go together, that's the statement I was trying to make.

wait a minute real tuning r u serious, i know im driving a hyundai 2, but how do u know what real tuning is. do u have a civic, 240, evo, or sti, supra skline, vr4, srt4, those are REAL tuning cars.
PSUsouthpaw
11-13-2007, 12:21 AM
uhhh...he's been turbocharged for quite a while and has managed to not blow up his car, and has also managed to make some pretty good power off it. It doesn't matter what the car is, it matters how the tuning is done and if its been done well.

WHAT the hell are you talking about?
Do you know what TUNING is?
You are telling me a CIVIC with a SMALLER engine and LESS equipment is better than my car? Is more ''tunable'' than my car?
And comparing a civic to those cars is APPLES to ORANGES. All the other ones you named are either, and, or turbo, awd, rwd.
You SERIOUSLY need some research.
That being said if no one has anything else pertaining to the topic I will be closing this thread pretty soon.
For your information I had my car turbo over a year on the original engine and no problems.

my buddy has a b18 vtech and he keeps up with evos, no turbo. therefor more tunable cuz there is no turbo. i agree elantra engine are good but an elantra will never be able to run a 12 second 1/4mile without spending a !@#$load of money. im glad u have had ur car turboed for a year thats great.
