ok well my friend has a saab 9-5, 2001, automatic.

its a turbo. stock everything.

he plans on comin over in a few weeks so i can help him install some after market stuff on his car, one of those includes a BOV.

now, i more or less know the function of a BOV... but im not quite sure of how they get installed or, where they get installed.

id appreciate any help on how/where to put this BOV.

i did read online, that this should be a relatively easy mod to do, but i figured id come here and ask u guys about it.

so if anybody can tell me how a BOV gets installed, and the best place to put one... me and my friend would be very greatful.

thank you.

Dude you should definitely go do some research. That is all.

you'll need to have a flange welded onto his charge piping, typically up closer to the intake manifold. Bolt it on then run a vac line to the intake manifold

So much for easy, unless you can weld.

they make BOV kits for some cars, if they make one for his its as easy as taking off the current pipe and swapping it for the one with the flange. If not then yes, you'll need to take it off and run to find a welder

I've got a 2007 9³ 2.0T. Having browsed saabnet, saabscene, and saabcentral quite a bit, members over there have not been successful adding BOVs to their Saab turbos due to their engine management systems. If your friend is looking for a sweet performance upgrade, have him check out the BSR PPC... some very nice gains to be had from programming.

i think what hes gonna end up doing is just add performance filters... no BOV... ive read about the possible troubles... and managed to convince him not to do it.

I'm all for trying something new to see what gains can be had, but didn't want someone to invest their hard-earned dollars where several others have tried with big problems and no gains.

Do have him search on ECM programmers by Hirsch and BSR though... 30-50 hp and 50+ ft.lbs. of torque achieved problem-free with nothing more than programming. From what I've read, both can program or return to stock tuning in just a couple minutes (several un-program when they go in for warranty work). Once I've got a decent cash-flow again, I'll be getting one for my 9³.

As I recall, Saab are recirc. Hell, I think Forge Motorsport makes a Saab specific Diverter Valve.
