Because existing sources of auto reliability information left much to be desired, in late 2005 I started conducting my own reliability research at TrueDelta.com (http://www.truedelta.com). TrueDelta reports absolute stats like "trips to the shop" that make the differences between cars much clearer. Results are updated four times a year, so it's possible to provide reliability information on new models quickly. Also, any significant changes in a model's reliability become apparent quickly.

I'd like to include the Elantra, but first more need to be signed up. I'm grateful that this forum has been helping by permitting me to post here. An Elantra owner did recently complain to me that I wasn't yet including the car. Now that I look, I've only had a thread posted in the HD forum--I should have posted in this general forum before now.

Participants simply report repairs the month after they occur on a one-page survey. When there are no repairs, they simply report an approximate odometer reading four times a year, at the end of each quarter.

Details on the research:

To encourage participation, those who help out will earn full access to all results free of charge.

The site has two other surveys--on fuel economy and repair histories--that require no minimum sample, so it's possible to participate in these right away.

Comments, questions, and suggestions welcome.
