Hello all, I just found this site while browsing pictures of Elantras. After about a couple of days of searching and researching I'm about 95% sure my first car will be a 2000 Elantra GLS. As a lover of asian cars, I wanted a Civic (probably not suprising lol.) But due to expensives I can't have one. So what I basically want to know from real elantra owners is that is this a good starter car and upgrade platform. I don't really know anything about the internal and external workings of a car but I'd like to make this first one look as nice as possible. I was thinking a body kit, some rims, and stuff like that. Is this a nice car to have and work on and also I was wondering if it would cost a lot to make it a little faster than what the reviews say.

Most of us drive 2001+ Elantras and would probably suggest one, however the 1999-2000 Elantras are nice cars as well. Depending on mileage you might find some similarly priced 2001. Also, there tends to be a little bit more in the way of aftermarket appearance items for the 2001-2003 (or 2004-2006). Many of the engine and suspension parts can be switched with Tiburon parts as well, which opens up the choices.

Welcome to EXD. Spend some time reading all the of "sticky" posts in each forum for can't-miss-info.

hmm, reminds me of me, whats up man, my elantra is also my first car, i've had it for a long time before i got my license though. you'll love it. as far as making it faster, so far i have an intake and exhaust, and its fast enough as a first car...TRUST me.

Well I got the car! I'm in New Castle. Rides nice and smooth and the audio is great. It handles comparable to the mercades 430 my mom owned. She sold it to get money for my car. It is pretty fast to me, and I probably won't change any internals. I do plan on doing some heavy external modding to it though.

Do you guys think the weather right know in the east coast is good enough for me to take the logos off the car? This is going to be my first mod.

Like everyone else said, congrats on your recent purchase. Stick around here for a while to learn some new stuff, there have been almost every model of Elantra and Tiburon floating around here at some point.

Oh and welcome to the boards!

If it is too cold you can always use a hair dryer to warm the stickers up a bit before removing them.

Welcome to the site.

Yup^ Just head them up and get them off. Be sure to have some goo-gone (or something similar) to take off any residue and maybe a pit of wax to clean up with.
BTW, Welcome :D
