Heya guys,

I've been an official lurker over here for quite some time, and finally registered a few weeks ago. I see a lot of familiar names over here, as I've been an active member of NT.com for over 5 years, and I know many of you are members of both forums.

I currently run an Beta2-powered '03 GK with an Alpine *Turbocharged* intercooled kit at 17 psi. It's been my daily driver for almost 4 years, and I love the boost. I do all of my own work, and I'm also a licensed mechanic. I'll be working on my "Garage" to get all the most recent pics and specs up, even though I don't drive an XD. (I drove an Elantra GT while my Tib was in for warranty work for a few days, though!!! lol..)

Hopefully I can contribute some insight and advice over here with my past and future Hyundai experiences, and take away the same.

Cheers Folks!

Are you running the i4 or the V6?

If you have the i4 then you're running the same engine as us, you could be more useful than you think. ;)

bah, such noobs you all are. lol He's running the beta2 with the alpine turbo kit at 17psi with the decompression plate. He also has the clutch masters stage 5 clutch for anyone who's wondering about his trans setup.

Good to see you over here man. If your posts don't show up right away don't sweat it. We have a 5 post limit that have to be approved by mods (to reduce spammers) so if they don't show up right away just wait a second. I'm usually on top of them pretty good.

edit: Keyan, I believe he said he is about 5 hrs from laval, quebec. I can't remember exactly how far but hes not close.

LOL...noobs indeed, Cypher....

Yes, Beta2 Powa FTW. I'm well aware of both our platforms and their shared drivetrains, which is why I've always made it a point to check out the goings-on over here for develpoments in this side of the Hyundai camp.

Thanks for the welcomes, guys, and Keyan - I live on PEI, so that's a good full day's drive from Laval. About 1000kms away....looking at 10-12 hours. I'd love to go to the meet though, I'll see what I can do come Summer.

You guys are all noobs. If you don't know who BRR is you need to go back to pre-school.

What's up.

I like him because he's the only "Alpine Turbo Fanboy" who's never really insulted me or anything even though I constantly knock the product (see sig).

LOL! I do try to take a step back and look at the big picture before firing my mouth off on the mighty Interweb. Alpine has a place in my heart...lol.. (even though I DID have to wait 4 months to get the kit, and it has this weird hiccup I've learned to deal with...I think it may have something to do with several precise OEM intake manifold sensors being, oh, I don't know....SPRAYED WITH FUEL?!?! lol...:P )

If nothing else, though, I have learned a lot with this setup, and have experienced and seen a bit too. If anyone out there has any Q's feel free to hit me up any time.

Exactly.

You're not a fanboy. LoL. I think we all know who I am refering to. But I do not want to cause any more trouble than it's worth therefore I refuse to state names. Hah.

BRR: I missed that one post, we must've hit submit at the same time.

When are you going to upgrade to real fuel management?

Eventually? LOL...

Actually just to save the lives of my new manifold sensors that I have on the way (and to ensue a wee bit better intake runner fuel distribution) ,I'm switching over to a secondary fuel rail setup.
I was actually toying around with the idea that Mahonroy has already employed for some time now...just using the Unichip's 5th injector driver to fire all four subinjectors simultaneously. I'm watching him with great interest, and we've already talked.
As mentioned here, at higher RPMS, injector timing is not a crucial as some may think. (Better than a 5th injector anyhow, and now I have a new use for my old OEM 190cc/min injectors...once I have them cleaned, anyhow..)

I would like to try out the SMT-6, but I mod on a limited budget, and with the extra fuel rail kit, a 16G compressor wheel upgrade to my 15T, I'm already at about $700. Not to mention the sensors I had to have replaced, and regular repairs/upkeep (wheel bearings, O2 sensor, brake pads, new heat wrap...etc...)

It all comes down to money right now. I've got a lot invested, but now I have a brand-spankin new 16-day old son I have to think about...;) I have to limit myself, and try to do things a little more 'shoe-string', and cut unnecessary corners where I can. I'll keep everyone posted of progress.:)

have you ever dynoed?

Keyan

the SMT runs the injectors the same way the unichip does....fires them all at the same time.

A$$! Ive never put you down either, but im old new around here...I see how it is.

Hey BRR welcome to the site buddy, I know there is nothing here that you will find new but its a few new names and different arguments.

ORLY?!?! Well then, we'll see how it goes with the Unichip. I thought that the SMT-6 had several subinjector driver circuits you could use to fire injectors sequentially... Hmm.

I'll keep that in mind, and thanks for the info!!!

And no, Cypher, I've never dynoed. This past year was actually the first time that I've actually had a reliable drivetrain setup (serious clutch woes), only to have sensor issues creep up now (#1 O2, TPS, IAC and MAP all need to be replaced).
I don't want to dyno it either until it's actually working 100% (Or maybe 95%...lol) Should be this Summer!! I do run 100mph in the 1/4 mile, though.:) Not bad for a 3200lb race-weight non-LSD FWD with "issues"..... ;)

I am glad that I got all replacement sensors when I bought my spare manifold, this way should something like your incident happen I have a cure.

I too am running over 100mph in the 1/4 so our power numbers should be around the same, if I was a gracious betting man I would say 250whp...but that I think is being pretty hopeful.

Hey Glen I was looking at your FMIC pics on Cardomain, were you able to keep the original Alpine charge pipes when you installed it?

It's too bad I don't live in the US, as a whole '03 Beta2 engine just sold for $98 on Ebay. I would have liked to have the sensors off of that one!

As for the the charge piping, I wasn't really able to retain much of it. I have kept the first two pieces right off of the compressor outlet, and after that I had to start fabbing up some pieces. For the most part, I got to reuse the Alpine-supplied charge hose, but just not exactly how it was installed before - some cutting and trimming was required to get it just right.
When I take the Metaphor bumper off this Spring for a small repair/touch-up, I'll snap some shots of my final pipe routing.
