View Full Version : Maybe a little reality in considering the NGM kits

OK, I've read all the nay-sayers that talk about how high that kit is going to be priced and how it "only" is going to give 180-190whp, which would be about 70hp over stock, or 50%.

Here's what the rest of the car world looks at:

ROUSH KIT (http://store.summitracing.com/partdetail.asp?autofilter=1&part=RSP%2D403309&N=700+4294908331+4294908282+4294806411+4294925239+ 4294839032+115&autoview=sku) that boosts the 4.6L V8 115hp or 38% for $5600

VORTECH7-9PSI (http://store.summitracing.com/partdetail.asp?autofilter=1&part=VOR%2D4FU218%2D010SQ&N=700+4294908331+4294908282+4294806411+4294925239+ 4294839032+115&autoview=sku) that gets "up to 50%" FOR $3960.

VORTECH 9-10psi (http://store.summitracing.com/partdetail.asp?autofilter=1&part=VOR%2D4FU218%2D028SQ&N=700+4294908331+4294908282+4294806411+4294925239+ 4294839032+115&autoview=sku) that quotes the same "up to 50%" increase for $5375

Not a fan of Mustangs, how about Camaro LS1's that offer a maximum 50% increase in prices that range from $4900-$6500 (http://store.summitracing.com/egnsearch.asp?SearchType=Make&N=700+4294908216+4294908198+4294924653+4294925239+ 4294839032+115+400107)?

What I'm trying to point out is this: If you expect anything that is built with reliability in mind for cheap, you're going to spend your entire life disappointed. A realistic goal of a 50% increase in power for $3500-4500 is what should be expected. Anything more and you're only kidding yourself.

You're just had to involve reality with that topic, didn't you?

I dont think people realize how much whp they start out with. So 180whp looks like a small number. I would really hope to see 200+whp really. Are we talking the intercooled setup???

BobMs_wht2k2

OK, 200hp is a 90hp increase over a stock engine. That's a 66% increase. Not realistic. Again, we need to consider REALITY here.

Well let's compare it to the ngm sniper kits.... they pay less than 3k$!!! And have two more cylinders. Granted they don't have the cooling kit but the manifold is there... you can put whatever pump and reservoir you want for like 400$ and call it a day.

$50/whp

Are you sure about those numbers? THIS (http://ngmhouseofpower.com/product_info.php?cPath=22&products_id=157) says $3500 for 240whp, which would be a 85hp gain over stock for a tick over 55%. BUT. . . it also says "tuned", so it's not making that power right out of the box.

KeWLKaT
12-21-2007, 04:10 PM
Are you sure about those numbers yourself?

"another customer has seen 265whp @ 6lbs of boost tuned.''

That's more than 100hp than stock! And for 3500$! ( i meant 4k not 3k lol)

That's way better than what we're getting with the 4cyl kit anyways.

Question/clarification...

The existing kits you're talking about are for the 2.7 Delta, right? What is the typical WHP on a 2.7 Delta OEM? I know the engine is about 172, but what's it at the wheels?

KeWLKaT
12-21-2007, 04:15 PM
He is looking at it as if the beta is making 110 and the delta 155

OK, $3500 for the kit, and how much does it cost to get the car dyno tuned?

Felix answered. Not sure on the Deltas, but it seems the majority of stock Betas end up around the 110-115 mark.

The same amount of money it costs for the 4cylinder kit to tune, lol :abovelol:

$150 per hour.

Silentwolf

About $100 per hour down here.

KeWLKaT

That's with the wideband? 100$ an hour? That's nice!

Silentwolf
12-22-2007, 03:37 AM
The guy said it was subjective, but typically $100 an hour. As for wideband, i didn't ask. The dyno is a full blown machine that can do any dyno style. Mustang, Dynojet, etc.

OK. . .so much for reality in here. I was just trying to point out that those poeple with unrealistic thoughts that a bolt on s/c is going to increase hp 100% and make 250+ is , well, unrealistic. For a DEPENDABLE (so many of you don't seem to understand this principle ingredient here), true bolt-on unit to cost$3-4k and deliver a 50-55% increase in power is entirely acceptable. The rest of the industry sees the same results.

Bob, my car dynoed in stock at 104whp, and now with my turbo, at 12 pounds, i should be well over the 200whp mark... that is over 100%. Even if i was only at 190whp or 180whp, that is still a min. of 80% increase. For me to make "only 55% more power" my car would be looking at about 150whp...and trust me, I'm well above that mark right now.

not to mention you dynoed at 104whp with an automatic and you now have a MANUAL.

lol I agree, I gave up on NGM a looooong time ago. I sent Tom my spare IM so he could do a custom one for the i4 guys, in return I would get the prototype as long as I had it dynoed before and after....good deal right?

He told me to have it sent down soonest as he was ready to start the project immediately, well that was about 9 months ago...no updates, no pics and I have no spare IM now!

Fuc< them guys!

Yeah but there is TC and Tom C, lol, that's why everyone gets confused about it.
