I'm looking for a scanner I can buy for my 2002 Elantra VE. Just want to make sure I get the right one for a 2002. Anyone have one they recommend? Ballpark price?
Thank you - Kate

Pretty much all cars made since 1996 use a system called OBD 2; Hyundai is one of them. The cheaper scanners require you to look up the code in a book for the actual technical information. The more expensive units will give the code and info right from the unit. I have seen the cheaper units for as low as $45 plus shipping , search ebay. If you search this site there are multiple links for cheap code readers. It should be adequate.

Do you want something to just read the code? Or do you want to be able to read sensor data too?

Thanks for the quick reply. I checked one obd site and a 2002 elantra was not there just the 2001 and other years. We keep getting a P0455 code which has been a chronic problem but want to be able to check periodically so that that if another code crops up we're aware of it and what it is so we can deal with that one if it's something that needs attention.

A 2002 would be covered with the OBD2 scanners mentioned.
CEL or check engine light for po455 from a sticky post on the "Help" section says
P0455 Evaporative emission (EVAP) system – large leak detected Hose connection(s), intake leak, EVAP canister, EVAP canister purge valve
Our vehicles are known to have intake manifold leaks. The gasket is fairly cheap but the labour I think is an hour or two depending on the shop.
Mechanics often spray WD40 etc around the manifold and listen for the idle to suddenly change. Helps diagnose problem.
