Hello all ElantraXD members:
My name's Mike and I'm a noob here on ElantraXd. Prior to our "my fiance and myself" 2007 Hyundai Elantra GLS M5 and 2003 Hyundai Tiburon GT V-6 M6 we owned a 2000 Pontiac Sunfire GT M5, a 1994 Chevrolet Cavalier Z24 M5 and a 1994 Geo Metro M5. (M = Manual Transmission # = gears)
The Sunfire was always a good car to us we only replaced the tires once, battery once, headlight bulbs once, on the back trunklid was the word sunfire which is lit up... those bulbs we replaced religously every 3 months, and thats all we ever had to repair on the car. We owned it since 32K for a little over 3 years and sold her with 81K.
This car was replaced by the 2007 Elantra GLS HD which we compared with the Corolla, Civic, Mazda 3, and the Scion TC. Although we enjoyed the TC we could not justify the 7K price difference. The corolla was the second runner up to the TC but we could not justify the 5K price difference and lack of torque. Let alone the fact that the Corolla is EVERYWHERE!!!
The civic came in at LAST place in our minds by a long shot. It was absolutely freakin' GUTLESS!!! I have no idea how anyone could drive that pile of crap every day!!! Although it was nice inside... ALSO a 6K price difference.
As for the mazda 3.... We could not justify the 7K more for the vehicle with the upgraded 2.3 engine and would not settle for the base model. The base engine felt very lacking and mediocre. But all in all a great car if you want to spend the extra dough.
So this left us with the Elantra HD. We have observed an average of 30 MPG with the vehicle so far. VERY IMPRESSIVE!!!! It's no Metro... 52MPG but It has this neat thing called HORSEPOWER!!! The metro was lacking in that department with 52 h.p. We have had a couple of tics in the last 7100 miles but I guess it is expected with all vehicles.... We pretty much feel that we stole this car from the dealership. The window sticker was If i remember right just a touch under $16K with the upgraded radio / AC package and floor mats. The car is captiva white with grey cloth interior. We drove it off the lot for $12,900 with 10 miles LITERALLY backed off of the Rig It came on and delivered to us. They told us that they all come with 10 miles on them from the factory... IS that true? BTW I live in NH so that means NO TAXES EITHER !!!!!
The Metro was replaced by the 2003 Black Hyundai Tiburon Gt V-6 M6 bought a week ago with 58K on it. So far so good with this vehicle.... Does not make the gas mileage at all but fairly fun to drive. A touch on the low side as far as torque is concerned but all in all a decent car.
My fiance informed me that if I came home with the Tiburon I would have to sell the Cavalier.... now this Cavalier is / was my daily driver / fun / toy / race car lol. People laugh at me all the time.... but then I laugh at them when they get smoked. Just to list a copule kills with the cavalier... 1998 - 2002 "every year" z28 camaro and SS camaro, 1997-2002 Corvette "no Z06's yet" Multiple SRT-4's with 19 lbs of boost etc... WRX, STI, Evo 8, 350Z, Mustangs and even 6.0 GTO's ... you get the point.
Well I still have the cavalier but I must sell it... It is a ton of fun... weighs in at only 2490 Lbs. with 1/2 tank of gas. Has a 2000 Oldsmobile Alero 3.4 V-6 full 2.5" mandrel bent exhaust, Eibach Pro-Kit, SRI, and a couple other things.... Oh yeah!!! the horsepower part! I'm spraying a 75 wet NX shot at her. p.s. don't even look for traction on the juice until around 70-75mph unless you have drag radials then you can expect traction by 55ish. Street tires I ran a 13.313 @108.87. I know she can take a 100 shot but I do not want to kill her I like her.
Anyways i'm sure this thread is long enough....
JUST WANTED TO SAY HEY!!!! AND THANK YOU!!!!! FROM NEW HAMPSHIRE!!!
