Ok guys, I guess its my turn to "pioneer" something. Right now the Elantra is in the garage (mostly due to needing inspection) and while its in a 'warmer' environment then outside, I've decided to throw on the gas hood struts I took off a Sonata at the junkyard.

I've found mounting locations for the base of the struts, that SHOULD work in theory. But the real issue is before I can test them...I need to mount them to the hood itself...which means drilling into the hood.

So far the ONLY time I've ever dealt with metal and a drill, was drilling out a lock at my work. So what should I be expecting in difficulty when drilling into the hood?

xdforme has put some hood struts on, not Sonata ones though. See if you can find his posts about it.

Thanks super. Those spots are WAY different then where I'm planning. Mine I guess are more along the Sonata stock locations.

That and you won't have to rivet these in...hopefully...

Guess i'll be a little adventuresome then...I'll go out and take some pics here in a little.

Good on ya. I got a pair of hood struts off a Daewoo and haven't had the cojones to try to put them on. Good luck.

Don't forget to post pics or a DIY. I am sure that I am not the only one looking forward to seeing them.
