Great news for all you F/I guys and gals (politcally correct)

I met a guy tonight that has an 01 GLS with a custom turbo kit. he's using the AEM standalone boosting 8psi on a BIG garrett turbo. hes got a tial external wastegate and dynoed at 278whp and 310wtq! not sure if thats the highest in North America or not.

anyway the great news is that he's using STI injectors they fit no problem and clip in like they were stock. they flow 620cc. so that eliminates the Dual Rail issue doesnt it? just thought i would share with the rest of the class, that about wraps things up around here......... SCHOOL'S OUT

im not F/I... but this seems like some awesome freakin news man. SWEET!

i will be able to beat that news in the up and coming weeks....

was he on the stock block? do you know what clutch he was using?? and specifics...or did you just nut yourself and fall asleep?

I can garuntee with those numbers he probably is not running a stock short block. And people in the states have beat that by a long shot. Tim (TurboElements) put down 460whp on a 1.8L. I will have some news in the next coming two weeks. You can still use STI injectors, they will be too big for 75% of the setup's out there. Even with bigger injectors, you still need a way to control them. Even with a piggyback the ECU would be fighting over the values and over-riding them in a short amount of time.

there will be no need to worry about the stock ECU...

In a standalone enviroment, yes. But have you ever had to wire in a standalone? It's a *****. I bought one a few months ago when I was going to swap out the dual rail. But the amount of work could not justify it to me.

He's had problems with clutches, he keeps going through them. as for the block he said its stock. and the stand alone he said was about 60+ wires to splice...... cake walk! haha

he also has an old honda with 20psi 350whp. i doubt he'll join the forums, but he gave me his email and told me he would come to the next meet. so i'll be sure to get pics. his xd had dents, dings and scratches... its not pretty, but it MOVES!

I'll believe this when I see it all.

I have trouble believing he's getting 278 hp out of a stock Beta II at only 8psi, regardless of anything else... and if he was only running 8psi he wouldn't need anything near 620cc injectors.

maybe he DD's it at 8psi, tracks it at more psi....

Ummm NO

You obviously never understood the concept behind the dual rail setups.

I could find 1000cc injectors that fit in my engine if I wanted to.

THE WHOLE POINT behind the dual rail setup is to keep the stock primary injectors in order to retain the same off-boost environment as stock.

o and a 100 shot of nos....... i forgot that part.

Oh yeah... just a little thing to forget when talking about horsepower and torque.

OK, so he's making 178 hp at 8 psi turboed, minus the N2O? That's believable, and really not all that impressive.

I still don't see why he needs four injectors of that size for an extra 430cc per cylinder, or an extra 1720cc fuel total for the engine (an extra 2.25 fuel as stock). That means he'd be capible of dumping in as much fuel as an elantra with three stock injectors per cylinder. Unless you were boosting to 28 psi (3 atmospheres) to get the equivalent displacement of a 6.5 liter engine, you wouldn't need nearly that much fuel.

And that's regardless of the stock ECU fuel management comments above.

Well... A 100hp shot isn't really 100 hp ;) So he's maybe making a bit more than 200 stock.

+1 on not being impressive.

I'm calling bull**** right now. Reason being forced induction and nitrous on a stock motor is near impossible. If he's running only 8psi that has to be a big turbo to hit 310whp on 8psi. But a turbo with nitrous, I think he's bull****ting you.

Agreed! Little red flag going up on this one.

Standalone, BIG garrett turbo, nitrous, and dents in the car to boot!

Lets get some pics and specs up on this guys car, maybe a video or two.

What do you call a big turbo? GT28 GT30 GT35 GT40 GT42 OR GT47-80? each of those turbo's are a nice size. when you say big turbo, do you mean the compressor housing was huge or the turbine and compressor housing was huge?

I don't know on this one. 278 seems very very high on just 8 psi, but then again big turbos push more air. I would want clarity on what turbo he has.

Let's see stock 10:1 + 100 shot + boost @ 8psi might be very possible with the aem.

and on one last note.......is it just me or does 278whp and 310wtq sound like somebody else's numbers? yamaha maybe?

KeWLKaT
01-17-2008, 06:30 PM
Actually yamahas numbers are the exact opposite ;)

on 18 psi mind you not 8 LOL

That'd have to be a honking turbo to hit 27Xwhp with 8 psi. So big that you'd probably need to raise the rev limiter to hit that horsepower lol since it wouldn't spool forever. and nitrous to boot? come on. You'd have to be nuts to try nitrous and boost on the same motor. Thats really just asking for **** to go wrong.

there are no pics of this guys car James..... i wish you were there to back me up. Meg had a camera but left before we moved from sears parking lot to applebees. this guy was at applebees. he was being very secretive until i showed him my car. all he wanted to do was race people for money but i was trying to tell him that no one wanted to race, we were just excited about a boosted elantra. took some convicing for him to even talk about it. i got his email, i will try and get him to show up to a meet soon, but he has no interest in joining the forum or anything. for all you haters, i will get proof!

KeWLKaT
01-17-2008, 10:56 PM
Pfff proof hahahaha

Don't make me laugh. You shouldve raced him and I'm sure you would beat him off boost on low throttle hahaha

ok so everyone stop posting in this thread until james comes to LI and races him and we take a video of this guy driving. all this controversy is killing me, its not my car, i dont know the guy, im just telling you what i saw and heard. believe what you want, who knows maybe the guys bull****ting me, but i'll tell you what... his set up looks like TIM's 96 elantra wagon and you all know what that thing can do

KeWLKaT
01-18-2008, 12:56 AM
Yeah but tim's wagon has a built engine ;)

Cypher

well, it does now. he pulled out 406whp with just low comp pistons.

even low comp pistons = built in some form.

True dat. Typically, when I think "built" I think BUILT ya know? complete rework of the motor.
