So the wife and I had date night last night. We went and watched Cloverfield. It was an awesome flick. Very well put together and kept me on the edge of my seat. The first 20 minutes or so are kind of slow but I think it was set up that way to get you used to the feel of the movie.(by the way is all shot on hand held cameras) So it's like a point of view type of movie. It has a kind of sept. 11th feel to it with buildings exploding and the rolling dust clouds.
It's scary(first time in a long time a movie actually made me jump several times) It's funny, It's a love story and most of all it's very entertaining. So if you haven't seen it go check it out. You won't be disappointed.

I saw the previews for it and I got dizzy cause of all the stupid camera shaking. My friend saw it and said it was like that through the whole movie, so I'll probably pass on it =/

I am going to say this, and say ONLY this to not spoil the movie.
It seems like a simple godzilla flick but there is so much depth to it if you watch it a second time.
The begining is IMPORTANT for the back story.
and
at the end when they are on the ferris wheel, look toward the right of the screen in the background.
and
stay till the end of the credits.
that is all.

Cloverfield was pretty good but chick-movie aside, Atonement was one of the best movies of last year.

My girlfriend and I sat through 27 dresses last night. She wasn't very happy with it, which has got to say something, given how much of a chick flick fan she is.

with all the respect... but cloverfield SUCKED! I came out with the worst headache ever. All i wanted to do during the movie was yell at the screen to tell that dude to KEEP THE F***CKING CAMERA STEADY!
moreover... the poster reads:
CLOVERFIELD
something has found us....
damn, that something better be tylenol!

I find these comments like this about this movie really funny. Granted due to the viral advertising, it was hard to know that the movie was to be shot all hand-held, and not on steadycams and dollies, etc. like most movies.
Its actually a GREAT idea! It really is ment to put you IN the movie. I mean, if some 30 story demon beast (I still have to go see it, I want to sat) is rampaging through my city, I'm going to be shaking like hell.
I can't wait to see it.

###POSSIBLE SPOILERS###
Just got back from it. I didn't read this thread until now just because I knew I'd be seeing it. I didn't realize it was filmed using that type of style.
My wife almost threw up from it. Apparently it's happening to a lot of people. Strangely enough it didn't bother me a bit (and I got sea sick and threw up when I was on a ferry in Mexico last month). So, it must be a different kind of thing that gets to people.
I thought it was a pretty good movie. I liked the "monster." Especially towards the end when you get a better look at it. The part in the department store is pretty cool/funny. I was laughing the whole time.
So, the ending wasn't amazing, but it certainly leaves open room for a sequel, which the movie industry loves. The guy sitting behind us said "Are you kidding me? That's ****ing gay!!!" at the end, hah.
I didn't stay until the very end but just looked it up on the interwebs, and yeah, I guess what I just typed about a sequel is right.

Dont know if this is true, but supposedly those things falling off of the monster are parasites and the monster is trying to get them off by "scratching" itself against the buildings.
I saw it last night and I guess I need to go see it again or wait until its on PPV to understand it better.

i just watched it last night. GREAT movie. i would have preferred it to have the option to listen to it in 5.1 DTS instead of only 5.1 Dolby Digital. other than that it was a sweet movie. non-stop action all the way thru. i had to turn my sub down a bit as it was shaking the walls. if it wasnt so late, id watch it again tonight :D

dunno ... everybody I know that saw it hated the movie, plus it's filmed "home movie style" and I hate those types of movie, I get dizzy and stop following the story after 5 minutes ... way too much shaking cam, hate that!

I liked it - watched it last week (yay for torrent files). It was not the best movie I've ever seen, but I can think of worse ways to spend an hour and thirteen minutes. It was pretty intense, and action packed the whole way through.

*possible spoilers*
i wasnt a fan really, i really didn't like it much at all.
the freehand cam wasnt terrible, not really my thing, but it didnt bug me too much.
didnt really like the monster or the little critters, never even got any really good shots of either, which sucked anyway. and nothing at all was explained, like at all, which also bugged the crap out of me.
It was something different, and thats all ill give it. it held my interest enough to finish watching it because it was something different then the same old crap. it was neat to just have the story be "escape with your life" but that honestly wasnt enough for me, i like a deeper plot/story i guess. if i had to rate it out of 10, 5 being an averagely mediocre film, id give it a strait 5.
and thats only because of originality and using some different ideas.
also the ending was poop. and sometiems when there is a poop ending you get the feeling they filmed more and had more and cut it and maybe the dvd will be better, but i didnt get that feel either. i felt like the ending was lame, and it was supposed to be lame. But also, it was somthing different, so it got a few bonus points for trying..
*also i had no plans on seeing this movie until i saw people talking about it on this thread.
im not dissapointed i saw it, it did kill 1.5 hours before bed, which is fine, i needed a brake from trying to learn how to play guitar hero lefty anyway.. my wrist was killin

Check out the special features on the DVD, it explains a little-bit, but has a lot more shots of the monster.

ah, interesting. even still. not having it in the movie and only in spec feature is kinda lame

Finally saw it. Not bad and but can't say its awesome. But the way they describe the monster in the special features vs what was shown on the big screen leave two very different impressions. What they say is no the way the movie depicts.

So rented it finally.
Watched it. Pretty good movie. Only gripe is the camera angle. So, did they kill the thing or what??? Can't wait for number 2. Maybe they can put some production value into the second and get a camera man.

ok, i understand why everyone hates the handy-cam look of things, it bugged me a little too. but in my opinion, the few times it didnt bug me i thought it was completely genius. the point was to put you in the movie as opposed to seeing it from a third-person point of view. innovative, but way over done at some points... like they tried a little too hard.
that being said, i've heard/read that this movie is basically part of the Book of Revalations, and the monster is the leviathan... debatable

I agree, I mean if she had that much energy why didn't she just pull herself off that spike and run away? Why make the poor guy run all through town for like 2 hours to find her? What a b!tch.
