There are lots of places you can go... I suggest looking up on the internet and see which place catch your eye...

1. Palaces
2. "In-Sa-dong": a street full of artifacts, arts, ...
3. "Old" Downtown (including near the city hall and myung-dong)
4. "New" Downtown ("Kang-nam (translate: River-South)" area
5. Tombs of kings
...
These are things that just popped up in my mind. Should be more, but as I lived there for 20 years without thinking about "travel in Seoul", I cannot get some specific ideas for that. :)
Don't rent a car to drive in Seoul. Although I'm accustomed to driving in Seoul, other non-Korean friends and my boss who drove in Seoul told me that the drivers there were frantic and it was so awful to drive. :D (Well... the car accident rate (or death rate) of Korea is (or was) the world first or second..) Oh... and another critical advice is "not to jaywalk". You might really get killed if you did so as you did in the states.
Just get a day or a week ticket for the public transport system. I think it'd be a bit difficult for foreigners to use buses, but the subway system should be enough. (Even I'm not familiar with the bus system in that crowded city. :D ) You may need to get an English version of the subway map beforehand on the Internet.

Check out this blog (http://outsideinkorea.com/). It's by an American living in Korea. Ask him.

Just curious, did you just pick Seoul out of nowhere?
No, I live in Japan, can't go to North Korea, been to China, Singapore, Malaysia, AUstralia, New Zealand, and since SK is the closest place, it was on the list. It's been something we've wanted to do, but have never had the chance.

Time to start a black market on Korean autoparts :P
The slow boat may be easier, but I would have to say its quite possible you guys have the best after market access. I wouldn't even know where to look for after market parts there. I barely know where to look for after market parts here. and I am about to buy an American car so I can get parts easier, all the way from america.
All you gotta do is find us the 6-speed tranny for the XD. I mean, thats all I want. haha...
I think if I found one there, it would probably go home with me, and be installed in the XD I buy when I get back to the states.
