so im sure many have seen and given much input in my couple 'i need a new computer' threads. well, everytime im ready to buy, something comes up

well, finally something good comes my way.

my g/fs parents bought 2 compaq presarios a couple years ago. nothing fancy, 40gb HD, 768mb ram, not sure what other features.

well, one of them got a virus, or something, which really f'd it up. still having a warranty, they sent it back in. they get it back, compaq couldnt fix it, so her dad just decided to go drop 1k on a new laptop

he said we could take this one, and if my dad was able to fix it, i could have it. SWEET. take it to dads, he let it sit for a week, messes with it today, i guess he cleared the whole hard drive and did some other things, and everything is working fine now.

so now im sitting here online, wireless, without having to have it plugged in (g/fs laptop battery is f'd and as soon as you pull the power cord, it dies.).

only thing ive realized is if theres some form of a pressure point on the bottom of the computer, or its not on a level surface or equal weight distribution, the screen goes a little haywire and the colors get wierd. as soon as you take the pressure off, its fine again. almost like a loose wire or something. i dont know. oh well

Congrats on the new computer. Hopefully, someday soon, you'll be able to get the system that you really want. But, there is absolutely nothing wrong with a couple year old compaq. They make good quality units.

The lcd cable is probably loose. My thinkpad had the same issue until I reseated the lcd data cable when I replaced the ac plug

Good stuff. Still, I'd look into upgrading the RAM a bit if possible, I know you've been using a really old/slow computer for a while so it probably seems quick to you, but less than a GB of RAM these days is still slow.

If you are thinking of upgrading memory, go through www.mushkin.com. Those guys are really good on price, and fast on shipping. I have never had a bad module from them.

by the way it is called purple hazing. I get it on my lappy if I use it for too long. I have a powerful video card so it overheats and the heat affects the screen. One thing, don't put it on your lap, if you plan on leaving it on a desk get a cooler for it, one of those things that serve as a base for the lappy and has fans on it for cooling. Other than that sweet, wireless rocks, especially if you want to go to panera and eat some good food while being on EXD.
