Does the spoiler enhance performance or is it only for looks?:)

It's about 99.999899899999% looks.

Welcome to EXD.

Well of course, I thought he meant for Elantra only spoilers.

Looks man, all about looks. For function, the car would have to be RWD.

Then, just put the spoiler on the hood. It'll be the same....right? :D

yeah, lets go with that

Maybe it will make everybody think your car is faster ;)

If you put flames on the side, it's faster too. I've triedto convince my wife to put flames on her pt cruiser, but she won't go for it.

the spoiler probably does put downforce on your rear end. when your going 80+ you can feel the diffrence.

the best way is to take the spoiler off and drive down the street with the trunk open. see where it leave the trunk after 30-40mph

then do the same thing with a spoiler on and at 30-40 i bet you it closes the trunk from the force.

i watched a friend do it on his teg. spoilers might be for keeping high HP RWD cars on the road at speed but it does keep us FWD guys planted at speed.

That is true, but this means your drive wheels are getting less grip because of the lighter front-end load created by a compressed rear. A conservatve spoiler is the best idea if you REALLY need one, wings are strictly for looks.

Why do people keep saying this? It's completely not true. Do you think that these rear wheel drive cars are all of a sudden going to start spinning the rear wheels at high speed? Not unless we're talking about nitro cars.
A spoiler keeps the rear end down so that you don't have it lose traction and get squirrelly on you.

my spoiler was intended for looks - if it helps with anything else, thats GREAT!

That's not true. The vehicle is not a fixed platform with a see-saw pivot point in the center. Putting downforce on the rear does not create lift in the front. The front will have the same amount of downforce on it regardless of the downforce on the rear (unless we want to start talking about super-complex aerodynamics that have no effect on the real-world driveability).

I like my low spoiler. Besides the look, it provides me with two nice benefits:

a) I can tell exactly where the rear of the car ends while backing up. Makes it much easier to reverse right up.

b) The brake light is more obvious to the drivers behind me. Anything to improve their reaction time is a good thing.

Discussion of down force and stability is, in my view, largely moot. In the aerodynamic analyses I've seen/read about the effects only come into play at high speed meaning velocities well in excess of highway limits.

Bib wings on high HP RWD cars were originally installed to control the rear end while cornering and braking at high speeds, not to keep the rear end down on a straight away. They do that by lowering the car to the ground to keep air from getting under the car and lifting it up.

If it's a PT Cruiser it should either have the flames inside already (gallon of gas and a match works wonders on those things) or the "flame" is already inside, no need to put it on the out...........

the "ONLY" reason i got my spoiler is for looks. now what you need if you have a hatchback is the giant whale wing on the roof!

lol......

but this is ok on the Vette cuz its RWD!

That wing on the Vette tho is even a bit extreme.

As for my car, i have no illusions that its for looks. If it creates some minute amount of downforce, thats fine an dandy. Cant wait to see it Thurs.
