Hello Folks,
I'm looking for a simple plug and play solution to replacing a foglight bulb on the 2002 Elantra GT (5 door). So far, I understand the the bulb type I need is a H3 bulb, but I'm not familiar as to the termonology. So could I simply go to an Auto Parts store and pick up an "H3" bulb or is there further spec I need to take into consideration.
Thanks,
Brav'

well... theres different kinds of H3 bulbs... they have super white. they have yellow for fog lights... etc etc...
if u pick up a pair pack, in which u get 2 of the same bulb, then u could simply replace both of ur oem bulbs with these new ones, and ur all set to go.
i dont have any experience with your type of fog lights... but im sure u shouldnt run into any problems.
maybe one of the guys with fogs like yours can further verify the information.

Also, pay attention to wattage. I think 27w is what OEM is. If you go bigger, there have been issues with the housing melting from the heat.

^ The H3 bulb for the 2002 GT (rounded rectangular lens shape) is specified as a 55 watt H-3 bulb. The 27 watt bulbs were for the round reflector units for the GLS kit.
If you want an easy to find, fairly white bulb, I'd grab a pair of the Sylvania Silverstar bulbs. That's what I have in mine now. They're not nearly as white as 6000K HID, but they're whiter than stock.
Like Pete03GLS said, you're better off buying a 2-pack 'cause it's cheaper that way, and replacing them both 'cause they usually burn out around the same time.
Remember not to touch the glass part of the fog light bulbs you're installing. Fingerprints or any oils or dirt on the glass will make them burn out faster.

Not on the Fogs. I believe you're thinking of the 100 Headlight bulbs that melted the housings. Like already mentioned the GT fogs run 55W bulbs. The GLS did come with 27W and I've been running 50W in my OEM fogs for a little over 3 years. I actually had to finally replace one last fall.

Another ?uestion...I assume i have to access the fogs from under the car correct?

Yes.. It is possible to do so and I did so when I installed fog lights (not just bulbs).
Anyways, people say that it's easier to lift the car or to detach the front bumper. You will need flexible arms and fingers to do so without lifting or detaching bumper.

i dont think that works on the passenger side bulb... not 100% sure... but i think the frame is in the way on that side...
right now... my car has 1 fog bulb, and 1 hyper white bulb... lol... looks really funny :D

Why do you need to put your head under there?
Just put your hand under! and use fingers to find screws :D
Anyways.... I used thumbscrews to install them easily. :)

Trust me, it works. I've been in and out of there so many times recently because of my HID fogs....

^ +1. Pull the headlight. I've done it from underneath and by pulling the headlingt, and it's much easier.

Pulling the headlight is a lot less work than you might think. On the passenger side, it's three nuts and the electrical connectors. Same on the driver side, except you have to take off the plastic heat shield that covers the area. No biggie.
