Nice set up Tricked! I like your rear 6x9 speakers, what type are you running and where did you get that cool grill for them?

It's not too long. The exact port length required is 11.5" and that's how long it is. It's just not all the way in the box. Maximum frequency with this setup is 23HZ. That's why the box has a 2.5' volume. I admit it would sound better with the port on the front, but I didn't want to ride around with the seats down all the time. Now I can put the seats up and still get great sound and no trunk rattle. So it's all built to spec.

hahaha! you got that right!

I have Infinity reference 6x9s. I took the stock rear grills off the deck and cut holes to match the aftermarket grills. I then carpeted the rear deck with the box carpet. Now I never have to take the rear deck out to get to the speakers (common pain in the *** for GLS).

That looks hot.
Very unique, original and a clean install.

The only thing I don't understand is do you have to keep the rear seat down all the time?
Also if the seat was up, wouldn't the amp produce a lot of heat with nowhere to escape?

I don't need the rear seat down, with it up it creates sound similar to a sealed enclosure (tighter bass) with all the deep bass from the port. There is still clearance on the sides of the box so with the sub pounding there is enough airflow to pass over the amp. Anyways, I don't crank it to the max for hours on end....no need to. It's a daily driver so the longest it's on at one time is an hour. BTW, the amp has a digital temperature readout so I can tell how hot it gets.

I wish I had a sedan just for the sound quality it produces with subs. I really hate the way they sound in the hatch, so I got reid of em. Very nice install, and good choice for an amp, Im a firm believer in Alpine stuff.

only1db
10-25-2004, 01:41 PM
um...a hatch is better for SQ...because the bass can achieve a longer wave length...and its not muffled

Yes I know, I should have mentioned that I was going for SPL with my last vehicle, I could never seem to reproduce the same numbers with the hatch. Sorry my bad.

I will. I'm just waiting for these piece of crap Nankangs to wear out. I'm looking into Kumho ASX in either 215 40 or 215 45.

Hmm... I'm going to be getting rid of my 215/45-17 Kumho ASX tires along with my wheels. I don't really like these tires, although I guess you have to make compromises if you need an all season tire.

I had to since my other got screwed up in the accident. I vowed to never again make another grill like that because it's such a pain in the ***. So much for that.

Here a couple item I'll be adding to the car while it sits in the garage. Next will be a four channel amp (100x4 rms). Hopefully I won't need a sub but most likely that won't be the case.....gotta have the bump. It's slowly coming back together. Saving for paint so the front will be done finally. Then will be getting the modified 4-1 header ceramic coated and a custom 2.5" SS mandrel bent, flanged exhaust with a magnaflow cat and a dual 3" DTM tip muffler. All of this in hope of the NGM SC being installed. At least my mileage is staying less than 78K for an '01.:)
