How hard is it?

From what others have said, no. Once you get the nut off the shaft, you can just knock it off with your hands from the backside.

Get the proper sized socket and a breaker bar. Otherwise your fits are all you really need.

Lining it up when you put it back on should be done cautiously.

One tip.
If the steering wheel won't come off.
Put on the nut again and give some smacks on the sides and back of the steering wheel.
(if you're gonna pull wothout the nut on, you'll fly on the back seat if the wheel comes loose(believe me :))
