 I'm in the process of replacing my fuel filter, I changed it and was putting fuel pump back into the tank and the pump is now hitting the bottom of the tank before pump actually its on it's place... wtf?? is this normal?
I didn't really pay attention to how pump looked before disassambling it... what did I do? I mean... I could force it a little and push it down to screw it back but is this normal? please help!!

take it back apart something is probably not snapped into place correctly. also make sure you transfer over ALL of of the gaskets including the one you can only see if you flip the unit over, many many people miss that one.

YES it is normal, if you notice there are springs and movement is OK, it is supposed to push back a bit (but not too much!!!).
Just make sure the clips are in, and as long as it doesnt seperate itself it is good to go.

okay all 3 of those plastic clips are in its place... but it seems like when i push the actually pump it's kinda stiff... don't know if it was like that when i took it out... and i dont see anything is on the way for it to be stuck...
so it's okay to just give it a little force and push it in and just screw it ??
sorry guys but help me!!

yes, if you notice there are springs... if you push on the assembly it can contract itself, correct?

yeah but not smooth though... normal??
was yours like that too??

well did you put the springs back in the way they were supposed to?
its not supposed to be very smooth either as it doesnt move in there except for assembly.
just put it in, screw it in, and see if the car works. worse thatll happen is that it wont start.
also itll take a couple of cranks of course since there is missing fuel in the filter.

No problem, that's what we're here for! ;)
As for the seats, do you have a hatchack or a sedan? (they work differently)

I have sedan GLS....
now those seats are loose... metal brackets were positioned right and it's in
and two bolts were bolted pretty tight...don't know what i did.... any suggestions??
oh and I was at the pump this morning trying to fill it up but it shuts off after 3 gallons, and i topped off and topped off and it was spilling gas... WTF!!
and i went drove the car for 10 minutes and went to different gas station and this time it filled up... was this normal? was it the car? or that pump?

That's very wierd. I have never heard of an instance like this. did you make sure that you hooked up all the lines on the pump?

i THINK theres hooks/brackets that hold the front of the bench seat down... thats how it was in my excel...
so i think u may have to take the bench off, get the front in correctly then re attach the screws.

Automatic pumps have some kind of anti spill mechanism built in so if you hold open the pump lever using your gas cap (people do this to avoid having to stand there holding trigger) it can't pump gas every where when tank is full. Station pump may have had a issue with their equipment.
Sedan lower seat has two hold down clips that attatch through the carpeting just below the front of the seat , 12 mm bolts hold them in.

2001VE got me lost... so your say it's the gas station pump?

Over sensitive spill back on pump --I think.

its not the gas stations pump, car gas tanks have overspillage valves in them. In an elantra I am not quite qure where it is located or possibly got stuck once.
The valve only works if the gas tank is sealed. make sure when you bolting the filter into place that you sealed it with the gasket.

you mean bolting the pump back into place right?(filter is inside pump)
well i thought that rubber seal worked as sealing gasket...no?

Yes gasket by itself does the sealing. You shouldn't smell gas strongly inside the car; if you do the bolts aren't tight enough that hold the pump down on the gasket.
