Hi all.
I have a 1988 Mazda Rx7 5 speed with a modified 13B F.I. N/A pushing about 170rwhp and well, two days ago I decided to buy my self another car. I searched and came across this real nice, clean, very efficient 05 Elantra GT Hatch will all the accessories I was looking for. 4cyl 2.0 automatic.
Power windows, locks, mirrors, sunroof
CD PLayer
A/C
I will be looking here for some help maybe to learn more about these cars. I am thinking of adding a few ponies to the engine so I may take a look on the TB and bore or taper port it, add a CAI , maybe a header. Other than that it will have stock muffs. No need for noise, its not a 5 speed nor was I looking for a 5 speed. I got my real sports car for that.
I just want to say HELLO and I will be poking my head in from time to time.

Welcome to the site. You will find alot of information on here. Don't be afraid to use the search engine. I would suggest looking into a sway bar for your first upgrade. The GK Tiburon rear one will fit and you can find them for well under $100 shipped.

Thats great man. I have a couple people that want me to do some work on their rotor motors. One guy wants me to swap a Series5 (89-91) 13b into a FB 1st gen..... that should be very interesting...
Im also on nopistons and rx7club. I think I am Rotaman on nopistons but I am RotaMan99 on rx7club.
Nice to see another rota head :nosthumbs

It wont be anytime soon for the minor upgrades but those are my plans so far. I have to dig into the engine to see what else could be worked on.
I have seen something called CVVT? Something about variable valve timing? Do our cars have this? This would be pretty nifty to control via piggy back.
Considering the millage our cars get, they must run pretty lean everywhere in the RPM band huh? I need to find out why the upper RPM band fades out so quickly. Not that its very important since actually in my case low rpm power is more important the high rpm.
Im working on repair a few defects in the car right now since it is well, used, so there are a few little minor issues such as the rear defroster, 4 lines on the bottom don't work so I got some conductive paint and hopfully have repaired them. I will see tomarrow morning.

Thanks for the welcome. Im not going to be using the car to race around turns with so a sway bar would probubly be my last upgrade since the handling seems pretty decent already. Thanks for the info though! I appriciate it!

Don't worry, pics will come. :D

SEEEXXYYY!!!!
I love those car and will always. I am going to be looking for another Rx7 eventually. I like the Series5 a lot better than the Series4 like mine. The underbody on mine is rotting out so im going to have to restore it for it to be anywhere near inspectable. Untill than, I will be enjoying my XD and looking for another rx7 from down south. I live in NH so all the rx7s up hear all have rusted if they are for sale.
IF you need any help with your future rotor motor just let me know. Rx7Club.com is the best place to go for even more info.

^You have a thing for that color don't you Chris? lol
I'm not so sure about running lean at upper rpms. I just wired in my wideband o2 sensor today so hopefully after I get the car back on the road (hit a deer, check the flame section) I'll be able to watch my gauge and comment on it.
edit: Where are you located? We have meets in the NE fairly regularly so if you're in the the area look out for them.

Maybe the ECU richens up top or pulls timing who knows. Would like to hear what your results are.

Noobies have a post moderation limit. We started this because we get all kinds of spammers that come on and make bogus threads. Its helped out tremendously. The limit is only 5 posts so after ur 5th post they will appear right away.

haha, Thanks guys.
So i was doing some reading and it seems I may have an XD2 instead of just XD which seems to have ended in 2003. 2004 it seems the Elantra got a facelift and is now codenamed the XD2?
Im from New Hampshire. Where are these meetings held?

Technically, from Hyundai's standpoint, the XD was 01 all the way through 06. For keeping things straight on the forums, we started calling the cars after the 04 upgrade the XD2. Most things are similar, with the exception of a different interior, the addition of CVVT, and the minor front and rear styling changes. The new body style, which is completely different, started in 07 and is the HD.

Welcome to the forum! I'm also into FCs....FDs and RX8s....I'm just waiting on the Hydrogen rotary to cross the sea and I'll be getting one.
After converting to an electric fan, how do FC drivers compensate for the loss of PS.....lots of arm curls? or plenty of :jerkit: ....lol...a friend has an 89 RX7 and that beast is fast, but hard to steer.
RotaMan99

If Mazda imports Hygrogen rotarys over here, I REALLY hope there will actually be cheap hydrogen service stations otherwise, no thanks
Hygrogen is a great concept though and from what I read, hydrogen needs LOTS of pressure to stay in a liquid form so if the hygrogen tank is under pressure, I wonder how much and is it absolutly safe?
Loss of PS after converting to an electric fan? Doesn't happen unless you make it happen that way. You can keep PS but a lot of FC owners drop the PS for a better feel of the road and infact, its not as bad as you may think. While sitting still you may need to hands on the wheel but a lot of times you don't. Once your moving its great. Although :jerkit: may help ;)
The electric fan is a LONG LONG LONG debate over on rx7club. I was always told you would get MAYBE 1hp swapping to an e-fan and this was coming from the top guys over on the club. Well recently dyno proof has showed you could gain upto 10+ rwhp by eliminating the clutch fan.
I have an E-fan, no PS, no A/C, no emmisions, highflow exhaust (can get better), custom CAI (dropped the filter in the front bumper), FD Alternator, Apexi SAFC, 89-91 intake manifold and TB on a 86-88 block and a few other things. The block was a rebuild so its got 115psi on all faces. Porting is on the list of things to do, thinking of a half bridge but maybe a full bridge.
I love the FD, I think it came out way before its time with the smooth slick body lines that the corvets took after.
If you would like you can read up on some of my good and some very usless articles here
http://howto.globalvicinity.com/gv_wiki.php?wi=2&co=1&vi=1&us=73
The Electric fan page I have to update since there is no dyno proof so in there you may find where it says you will "maybe" gain 1hp.
We should have a subforum on here for us rotary freaks hahaha:abovelol:

I have the GLS version of that car :) looks nice. love the tool boxes in the trunk. definitely a mans car now. Nice RX would really love to own an RX7 some day. but the dream car is definitely an R34 hands down.
RotaMan99
02-16-2008, 09:30 AM
The r34 is sexy. I love the skyline. If I could have my pick I would go with a skyline instead of the rx7. Although, the 99' spec rx7 is MUCH sexier!
That pic of my rx7 was before it started to rot out real bad. Unfortunatly now its gone to far and is uninspectable hence the reason I got a new car.
At my job, I have to keep our vehicals running smooth and fix anything that needs fixing so I have to carry some of my tools around. I would love to keep the tool box at work but I would need to buy duplicate tools for my chest at home. To expensive.
